Faith-Based African American Communities Empowered for Change (FACE) is a community-driven, cancer health disparities-inspired organization that emerged from the community work undertaken in collaboration with the South Carolina Statewide Cancer Prevention and Control Program. FACE is a community based organization that will disseminate and implement the Healthy Eating & Active Living in the Spiri

t Program (HEALS). HEALS is a twelve week healthy eating and physical activity program. The goal of this program is to measure our ability to implement and disseminate the HEALS Program within the African American community. The twelve week healthy eating and physical activity program will be tailored to meet the needs of the church by focusing on the following goals:
• Providing cooking classes and tasty recipes to help you plan and eat healthier meals;
• Helping you include more physical activity in your daily routine; and
• Providing all participants with some basic measurements to assist you in tracking your progress with:
• Weight
• Blood pressure
• Waist/Hip measurements
HEALS can help you take the most important steps to better health by giving you the opportunity to practice healthy habits, as you apply Biblical principles. Your church may be eligible for a FREE healthy eating and physical activity program!!!

The Kershaw County Conservation District is seeking people who are interested in becoming involved in a community garden. The idea is to grow fresh fruits and vegetables in raised garden beds which would eventually become part of the new Farmer’s Market slated to open in Spring 2018. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or someone who would like to learn from scratch, we would like to hear from you!
“Growing” our community through fun fellowship, education, fresh food and finance is our ultimate goal, and this ad is aimed at individuals of all ages, groups and anyone in the community interested in taking part.
Additional details will follow after the level of interest is noted from response.
Please call 803-272-3777 or email [email protected] by December 15th, 2017.
