Attorney General Wilson led the 29th Annual Silent Witness ceremony today at the South Carolina Statehouse. He called the names of the 30 women and 10 men who died as a result of domestic violence last year in our state. Red and blue silhouettes represented each victim, and a 41st purple silhouette represented the unknown victims.

Today, Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that agencies and groups that help crime victims in the Lowcountry and Grand Strand are receiving more than $9.2 million in Crime Victim Services grants. The grants total more than $29 million statewide. The grants go to serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, and more. The Attorney General has been announcing these grants every year at this time since 2017, when Crime Victim Services were consolidated and moved to the Attorney General's Office, as a way to call attention to the vital work these groups do.

Today, Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Upstate groups and agencies that provide services to crime victims are receiving more than $7.4 million in grants. He has announced these Crime Victims Services grants every year at this time since 2017, when the legislature consolidated crime victims services into one department and moved it to the Attorney General's Office. Today, Attorney General Alan Wilson announced more than $12.4 million in crime victim grants going to groups in the Midlands and P*e Dee regions to help crime victims in their communities. Around 78 percent of the money comes from federal grants, with the rest from state funds. Tomorrow, he'll announce the grant recipients in the Upstate, and he'll announce those in the Lowcountry next Wednesday. The total amount awarded statewide is more than $29 million.
