🔥 Citizens Fire Academy — Applications Open! 🚒

Columbia Fire & Rescue is inviting community members to experience the fire service firsthand through the 2026 Citizens Fire Academy!

This free, six-week program gives adults ages 18 and older a behind-the-scenes look at fire and rescue operations through CPR training, equipment demonstrations, station tours and a hands-on mock fire scene featuring hoses, ladders and search-and-rescue tactics.

🔥🚗Vehicle fires can happen quickly and without much warning. Knowing what to do can help keep you and your passengers safe.

If you see smoke or fire coming from your vehicle:

• Pull over safely
• Turn off the engine
• Get everyone out
• Move at least 100 feet away
• Call 911
• Do not open the hood if smoke or fire is coming from the engine compartment

Most importantly, stay out and stay back. Vehicles can be replaced, people can’t.

🐾 Meet Blaze, Columbia Fire & Rescue’s Newest Emotional Support K-9! 🚒

The Columbia City Council has approved a donation of professional K-9 training services valued at $4,270 to support Columbia Fire & Rescue’s Emotional Support K-9 Program.

Blaze joins the department following the passing of its previous support K-9, Darby, and will continue the program’s important role in supporting firefighter mental health and well-being.

Firefighters regularly face high-stress and traumatic situations, and Emotional Support K-9s can provide comfort after difficult calls, help reduce stress and anxiety, and boost morale.

Based at Fire Station 3, Blaze will support firefighters and other first responders while also participating in community outreach and public education.

Columbia Fire & Rescue is proud to welcome Blaze to the CFR family! 🐾❤️

Columbia Fire & Rescue demonstrated its commitment to serving ALL citizens of the City of Columbia yesterday evening when this little baby possum found itself in quite the predicament after getting into the engine compartment of the fire truck at Station 1.

Fortunately, Fire Lieutenant Matthew Langford came to the rescue and safely removed the unexpected passenger.

Columbia Fire & Rescue is always here to answer the call for help, even when it comes in as a hiss! 🚒😂

🚨 STRUCTURE FIRE 🚨

Columbia Fire & Rescue crews responded to a working structure fire in the 300 block of E. James Campbell Boulevard at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Units arrived on scene quickly and immediately began fire suppression operations.

🚒 Please avoid the area while emergency crews work the scene. Expect increased apparatus traffic and possible road restrictions to allow firefighters to operate safely.

Columbia Fire & Rescue would like to thank our automatic aid partners — Maury County Fire Department, Spring Hill Fire Department, and Mount Pleasant Fire Department — along with the Columbia Police Department, Maury Regional EMS, Columbia Power and Water, and Atmos for their assistance and support during this incident.

Expect delays due to a structure fire on East James Campbell Boulevard.

Eastbound lanes of East James Campbell Boulevard are closed from Campbell Park Drive to Mooresville Pike while emergency crews work the scene.

Please use an alternate route if possible and avoid the area until the roadway reopens.

We proudly recognize the retirement of Engineer Jamie Blackwood after 25 years of dedicated service to Columbia Fire & Rescue and the citizens of Columbia.

For a quarter of a century, Jamie has answered the call with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Throughout his career, he has been a dependable teammate, a trusted leader, and a valued mentor, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who has had the privilege of serving alongside him.

25 years of service represents countless hours away from family, thousands of emergency responses, and an enduring dedication to protecting our community. His contributions have helped shape our department and will continue to be felt for years to come.

Please join us in congratulating Engineer Jamie Blackwood on his well earned retirement. We thank him for his 25 years of faithful service and wish him and his family a retirement filled with good health, happiness, and many new adventures.
