Students from the Victory Works Program at Heyward Career and Technology Center in Richland County School District One were recently honored with a South Carolina Senate Resolution, presented by Senator Overture Walker and members of the Richland County Senate delegation. Program teacher Julia Coleman was also recognized alongside the students for her leadership and commitment to their success, which has strengthened and elevated the Victory Works Program over the past three years.
This recognition highlights the students’ dedication to growth, leadership, and community involvement as they prepare for life beyond high school. Through hands-on learning and real world experiences, students continue to build skills that support independence and future success.
A key factor in earning this honor was the students’ work in organizing and participating in the program’s Veterans Day Community Action initiative, where they honored and learned from veterans in the community. Their efforts reflect a strong commitment to service, respect, and civic responsibility.
Students also received state and national recognition through SkillsUSA for two consecutive years, presenting their Veterans Day Community Action Project and demonstrating excellence in teamwork, leadership, and communication.
Heyward Career and Technology Center under the direction of Mr. Robert Craig Washington celebrates this achievement and commends the students representing Heyward and the community with excellence.
