Think it should all be manicured and tidy? Unfortunately, that’s not what a native plant habitat is.

This town mowed down all of the native pollinator plants outside the Toledo, OH zoo because people "didn't like the native look."

Education is key! Our pollinators cannot survive without these natural habitats.

The Native Prairie Project, which attracted pollinators like monarch butterflies, is no longer outside the Toledo Zoo.

It’s National Pollinator Week! 🐝 🦋 🐦‍⬛🦇

A week to recognize and appreciate pollinators, and to understand how to help them.

Pollinator species (bees and other insects, birds, bats - yes, bats! and other animals) play a critical role in producing over 100 crops grown in the U.S. alone.

We rely heavily on pollinators for the success of our crops (for our food and economy), but pollination is also a crucial step in many native plants’ lifecycle, ensuring a healthy ecosystem.

And guess what? NJ has many, many pollinators!

Clean up day kicked off today at the garden! Now that it’s safe to cut back the stems and sticks that bugs, butterflies and moths might have used to overwinter, we spent the day clearing and seeing what is starting to grow. 🌱 While you might not want dandelion and purple dead nettles in your gardens, we kept them for now as they are important first food sources for pollinators like bees. 🐝 There is still plenty more to do and still chance of temps dropping down in the coming weeks, so excuse how the garden may look as we slowly get ready for the blooming season! 🌸🌻🌼

Many people confuse Monarch caterpillars with Black Swallowtail caterpillars. Monarchs feed only on milkweed and Black Swallowtails feed on herbs such as parsley, dill, fennel, and rue.
