Due to an increase in the concern of "Golf Carts" on public roadways we want to address the State of TN Laws on such use. GOLF CART AS DEFINED BY TCA 55-1-123 MEANS A MOTOR VEHICLE THAT IS DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED FOR OPERATION ON A GOLF COURSE FOR SPORTING OR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES .....THAT IS NOT CAPABLE OF EXCEEDING SPEEDS OF TWENTY MILES PER HOUR. They do not have a manufacturer VIN and therefor they are not registered, tagged, etc. Golf Carts are not permitted on public roadways. This includes neighborhood streets due them being frequented by the public and falling under TN State Laws. The goal of this is to ensure the safety and to educate our community. Are there exceptions such as LSV (Low Speed Vehicle) or MSV (Medium Speed Vehicles) yep, because they are not Golf Carts. Those vehicles require registrations, etc. as well as a valid drivers license. So, this a Public Service Announcement for Safety and Education only. To put this as simply as possible: you cannot operate a "Golf Cart" on public roads in TN as defined unless local ordinance allows. As of date, City of Columbia does not have such ordinance. Now we will let you get back to your regularly scheduled programming or law school
