Adair County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9:00 PM CST tonight.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop. Stay alert and be ready to act if warnings are issued.

What to know about a Thunderstorm Watch:
• Storms may produce damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall
• A watch covers a large area and lasts for several hours
• Not all areas will see severe weather, but conditions are possible
• A watch can be upgraded to a warning if severe weather is detected

What you should do:
• Stay weather aware and monitor local alerts
• Have multiple ways to receive warnings (phone alerts, weather radio, TV)
• Secure loose outdoor items that could be blown around
• Be prepared to move indoors quickly if storms develop

Adair County has been placed under a Flood Watch until 7:00 AM Thursday morning by the National Weather Service.

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding. While flooding is not occurring right now, it could develop quickly if heavy rain moves into the area.

What to watch for:
• Heavy or prolonged rainfall
• Rising water levels in creeks, streams, and low-lying areas
• Water covering roadways
• Rapid changes in weather conditions overnight

How to stay prepared:
• Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown
• Keep a way to receive weather alerts (phone, NOAA radio, etc.)
• Be alert, especially if you live in flood-prone areas
• Have a plan in case conditions worsen overnight

Adair County is currently under a Slight Risk for Severe Weather tonight.

Timing: Storms are expected to begin moving into Adair County around 7–9 PM CST.

Main Threats:
• Damaging straight-line winds
• Localized flooding, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas
• Heavy rainfall that may cause water to quickly cover roadways

HOW TO PREPARE:
• Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, and other loose items.
• Charge your phones and weather radios before storms arrive.
• Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
• Avoid unnecessary travel during the strongest storms.
• Never drive through a flooded roadway — Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
• If you are outdoors this evening, know where you can take shelter before storms arrive.
• Keep flashlights and emergency supplies readily available in case of power outages.

Remember: Even if your area does not experience severe weather, heavy rainfall can still create hazardous conditions.

Adair County is currently under a Flash Flood Warning until 10:45 PM CST tonight.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flash flooding is already occurring or is imminent. Heavy rainfall can quickly overwhelm creeks, streams, and drainage systems, leading to dangerous conditions in a short amount of time.

What you need to know:
• Flooding can happen rapidly, even in areas that don’t typically flood
• Roads may become impassable with little to no warning
• Low-lying areas and poor drainage locations are at highest risk

Stay safe:
• Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown
• Avoid walking or driving near floodwaters
• Move to higher ground if flooding develops in your area
• Stay weather aware and monitor local alerts

Adair County has been placed under a Slight Risk for severe weather this afternoon into tonight.

Main threats include:
• Damaging straight-line winds
• Isolated tornadoes
• Localized flooding

What you should do now:
• Secure outdoor items that could be blown around by strong winds
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts (NOAA Weather Radio, mobile alerts, local media)
• Review your severe weather safety plan and know where to take shelter quickly
