There are FLOOD WATCHES are in place across mainly the eastern half of Kentucky where flooding is possible.

A FLOOD WATCH means conditions are favorable for slow-rising, long-term river or creek flooding, typically developing over 6 hours.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means conditions are favorable for sudden, violent flooding (usually from heavy rain) that develops in less than 6 hours.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible today across the area near an approaching warm front. Severe weather today is really a conditional thing, depending on if we can get a break in the clouds to allow some heating. TIMING NOON-8 PM.

While there is a low-medium possibility a severe storm and brief tornado is possible, this WILL NOT be a widespread severe weather event. There is a greater chance of heavy rain at times. We are NOT even in a slight risk area.

Winds near a warm front tend to shift in speed and direction as you go higher in the atmosphere. This is known as directional wind shear. This can help produce a brief tornado.

We continue to receive much needed rainfall and more is on the way right thru the Memorial Day Weekend. Since its beginning in 2000, the Palmer Drought Index has recorded extreme droughts only 3 times in 26 years, 2007, 2008, 2016.

Please continue to pray for more slow showers and rain as we remain desperate. Casey County has a huge need for rain as their water supply is drying up.

This is a weather update regarding tomorrow, Friday May 22. We are going to be monitoring the weather conditions as we move into tomorrow.

So, kind of a complicated forecast tomorrow, however it, we don't anticipate a wide spread severe weather event.

There is an approaching warm front moving into Kentucky. (That is the red line you see moving across the state.) Usually when you have such, there will be winds at the surface and the direction of those winds will change with height. Oftentimes, in these situations a brief tornado can develop if those winds can rotate and reach the ground.

Timing would be after noon and into the early evening. This is NOT a tornado outbreak.

Rain chances continue to be good for the next few days.
