As we bring the Columbia 300th Anniversary Lecture Series to a close, we want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who helped make this historic year so special.

Throughout the year, our community came together to celebrate 300 years of Wright’s Ferry and Columbia history through a wonderful variety of events. From the Official Opening Ceremony and Music in the Park and the Lancaster County Firefighters Parade, to Tea with Susanna Wright, the Vintage Baseball Doubleheader, community festivals, anniversary merchandise events, and our 300th Anniversary Lecture Series—each gathering gave us another opportunity to celebrate the town we are proud to call home.

A very special thank you goes to our Columbia 300th Anniversary Committee. The countless hours of planning, organizing, meetings, problem-solving, and work behind the scenes made this year possible. Your dedication to Columbia and its history truly showed throughout the celebration.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our generous donors, sponsors, local organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners. Your contributions and support helped turn ideas into celebrations and provided opportunities for our entire community to come together.

Most importantly, thank you to our community. Whether you attended a lecture, joined us at an event, volunteered, purchased 300th Anniversary merchandise, shared a piece of Columbia history, or simply came out to celebrate—you were part of this milestone year and helped make it memorable.

While our 300th Anniversary Lecture Series may have come to an end, we’re not quite finished celebrating! 🎭

Look for us in the Columbia Mardi Gras Parade on October 22nd as we continue celebrating Columbia’s 300th Anniversary. We hope to see you along the parade route!

Three hundred years brought us together to honor our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to our future.

Happy 300th Anniversary, Columbia! ❤️ Here’s to the next 300 years!

On this day in 1903, Charlie Williams is treated for a badly sprained ankle at Columbia before being sent home to Wrightsville. It could have been worse. An employee of the Columbia & Port Deposit RR, Williams is running on top of slippery box cars when he loses his footing and begins sliding feet-first toward the opening between cars. Knowing this meant instant death, he twists his body and goes off the side instead, landing hard on his right foot.

Thanks to Gerald Nikolaus, Michael Witmer, Martha Harris, the Greater Columbia Area Ministerium and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church for a super presentation on the history of the borough's houses of worship. This was the 15th and final talk in the Columbia 300 Speaker Series and a big crowd nudged our total attendance to 800 people. We saved this presentation for last to underscore the importance of religious life in town. Over 300 years, Columbia has gone through its share of ups, downs and challenges, but the backbone of faith and community has always been there to provide support and fellowship.
