“I went from almost working for the UN to becoming a pastry chef and eventually going on a book tour for my own cookbook — with a lot of life in between. Potluck Desserts is unapologetically q***r-centered; nothing about it is softened or diluted to make it more palatable. The book explores that early stage of q***r life when you’re stepping out on your own, finding yourself, and building chosen family. So many potluck recipes are rooted in family tradition, and for q***r people, those recipes often come with complicated emotions. Whether someone is fully supported by their biological family or not, they can still carry those recipes with them into new spaces and new communities. The book is about reclaiming those traditions — turning something that may have once felt painful or isolating into something joyful, communal, and affirming.”
