Official Counts Understate the U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll

Inconsistent protocols, limited resources and a patchwork of decision-making has led to an undercounting of people with the coronavirus who have died, health experts say.

I don't want to release numbers, ages, conditions, but let me say this: COVID-19 is real and deadly to some populations. Yes, we have had people, who have tested positive for COVID, die in Shelby County. While the cause of death may primarily due to a pre-existing condition , COVID-19 has played a role in the death. If a death occurs at home, the SCCO will be asking the family about recent cough, temperature and shortness of breath. We have been testing decedents for COVID and will continue to do so on a case by case basis. We are working hard to get accurate reporting on these deaths.

Caldwell Crossings Death Ruled Homicide

Yesterday at 12:26 p.m., police responded to a residence in the 3100 block of Crossings Drive in the Caldwell Crossings neighborhood. Friends of the resident called 911 after discovering the victim deceased inside his home. There were no apparent signs of forced entry but evidence at the scene suggested that foul play was likely. The body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery, and an autopsy was performed this morning. The medical examiner has determined the victim died from blunt force trauma, with the manner of death being homicide. The victim has been identified as 73-year-old Arthur Grey Till, Jr.

Detectives and Crime Scene investigators continue to follow leads, examine evidence and conduct interviews. At this point we do not believe the victim nor his residence were randomly targeted. If anyone has information regarding this case, they are urged to contact Detective Brad Fountain at 205-444-7562. If you wish to remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777.

Learning how to "Stop the Bleed"

Great segment on 60 Minutes tonight. So thankful to partner with Pelham PD and UAB to teach this invaluable training to anyone who wants to learn. WE ALL NEED TO BE PREPARED!

Ballistics tests show how lethal a wound from an AR-15 style rifle can be. Now there's a campaign to teach civilians how to be first responders in mass shootings

I was sitting in the 65 traffic. Once I got up to Calera and saw them directing traffic off 65, I knew something bad had happened. Slow down. SLOW DOWN. SLOW DOWN. How would you feel to know you caused an accident in which someone lost their life?

I just ask that everyone stays aware of their surroundings, especially when driving. Today a family lost a loved one. 54Y Mark Brasher died when the motorcycle he was driving stuck another vehicle. His wife, who was his passenger, is in serious condition at UAB. Continued prayers for this family.

ABC Polymer Industries facing fines after 2017 fatal accident of Alabaster resident | The Alabaster Reporter

Companies have a responsibility to their employees to provide them with proper training and safety equipment.
With that said, employees must follow the procedures set in place. Sometimes we lose site of why we have safety laws. It's horrible cases like this, that remind us we must follow the rules!

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited ABC Polymer Industries LLC, a little more than six months after a tragic industrial workplace accident that resulted in the death of 45-year-old Eva Saenz of Alabaster.
