I am deeply honored to have been named the 2026 Coroner of the Year by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME) during this past week’s conference in Las Vegas.

To be recognized among so many dedicated colleagues from across the country and around the world is truly humbling. Representing Shelby County, Alabama on an international stage is a privilege I don't take lightly.

I do this work—not for recognition—but out of a genuine passion for serving our community and supporting families when they need it most.

56Y Troy A Tabor of Birmingham was pronounced on scene at the MVA on Hwy 280 this morning. The accident occured at MM 10 on East 280. ALEA is investigating the accident.

66Y Johnny Lee Bittle of Mt Olive, has been identified as the truck driver in yesterday's I65 crash in Pelham. The crash happened around 0600 at the 246 exit. No other vehicles were involved. It is unknown at this time if Mr Bittle had a medical event, causing the crash.
I would like to thank Pelham Fire Department for their wonderful help in recovering Mr Bittle. PFD, your actions and hard work on this scene continue to show your dedication and love for your your community and fellow man.
Thank you to the City of Pelham workers who didnt have to step up, but did so without hesitation. Thank you to Pelham Police Department. Chief, you should be proud of your team.

20Y old Will Aden Chisholm,of Birmingham, has been identified as the person who drown yesterday at Oak Mountian State Park. Will went underwater around the buoy line. He was recovered by Pelham FD Dive Team.

16Y old William James Clowdus, of Alabaster, was the decedent identified in yesterday's MVA on Hwy 119. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this young mans family. ALEA is investigating the crash.

20Y Jesse Southard of Birmingham was killed when his sedan was struck head on by a truck traveling SB in the NB lane I-65 Pelham this morning. The driver of the truck was 37Y April Ballard of Leeds. She was also killed in the crash.
