It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Corporal David Orth. After a short battle with cancer, Cpl. Orth succumbed to his illness Sunday morning, February 20th.

After 30 years in Law Enforcement, 17 of which he served the City of Columbiana, David was a treasured asset to our department and our community. He will be greatly missed, and we won’t be able to replace his quick wit or laughter at the department.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

When a police officer dies, it is not just those close to him that feel it - it is the entire community that feels that loss. Orth, we love you and we will take it from here.

Due to the heavy rains this evening, there are several roads with water over them. Please be mindful of this as you make your way through town. When there is water over the road, you are unable to see if the road is washed out underneath, if you are maintaining your lane, or if there are any other hazards beneath the water. Do not attempt to enter roadways that are flooding. Not only do you put yourself and your passengers in danger, but you also place first responders in unnecessary danger. Use caution. Use common sense!

With a program like Candy Cane Buddies, it takes a lot of hands to make it a success. This year was very different than last year. The kick off was planned, the applications came faster, the help was spaced out, and the organization was a bit more chaotic. But, we also got the opportunity to help more kids than last year. We had more helping hands involved. We laughed and got to know the families more. Different businesses stepped up and helped out. More citizens took Buddies from the trees. New families were served. Families from last year served families from this year. Different hiccups came up… but were addressed quickly. More blessings were witnessed!

The last two months have been a whirlwind, but we at Columbiana PD would like to thank every person who has stepped in to lend a hand and serve the kids in our community. Whether it was to take a Buddy shopping, provide stockings and stuffers, help wrap, lend an encouraging word, or throw your hand up at the last minute and volunteer to serve a family… your support of our community and department has not gone unnoticed, nor unfelt, during this Second Annual CPD Candy Cane Buddies Program.

Last year= 21 initial applications… end total was 61 people served.

This year= 36 applications & 65children served, with more items left over so as to find someone who might need a little Christmas cheer!

Below are a few pics of the fun that was had preparing and wrapping, and the end product ready for the families to pick up.

Thank you Columbiana and Friends! You’re the best!!!
