A little something I put together in my spare time a few weeks ago.
HexBin US States in a variety of geo formats.
These can be used as a replacement for those ugly and usually undecipherable cartograms you see occasionally. It's one way to visually normalize data by factoring out the area of the map unit.

I've been playing around with R the last few days. I figured I should brush up on my stats skills, and how to apply them to geo analysis. Here's a screen cap of an R Demo - Plotting points over a Google Maps basemap using R. Surprising what you can do with it.
