Little Hands, Big Impact! 🚯

Ever wonder when is the best time to start teaching kids about keeping our community clean? The answer is right now!

When children learn about litter control at a young age, they don't just learn not to drop trash—they learn to take pride in the place they call home. 🏠✨

Here’s why starting early matters: 1️⃣ Habits Form Early: What kids practice today becomes second nature tomorrow. 2️⃣ Sense of Ownership: Caring for our parks, streets, and neighborhoods builds civic pride and community respect. 3️⃣ Empathy for Nature: They learn how litter affects wildlife and local ecosystems.

How to get started at home: • Make it a game! See who can spot and safely pick up the most litter during park walks (with gloves/grabbers, of course!). • Lead by example—kids watch everything we do! • Talk about why we keep Columbus clean.
Let's raise a generation that leaves every place cleaner than they found it! 💚

It’s NOT just about the litter on our streets!

🌱 Ready to make your cat's routine a little greener? 🐾

Traditional clay litter requires mining and sits in landfills forever. Switching to eco-friendly, plant-based alternatives—like upcycled wood, corn, or grass litters—is an easy way to shrink your pet's carbon footprint!

Here are a few quick tips for a greener litter box:

Choose high-performing clumping litters so you waste less and your bag lasts longer.

Skip the flush! Always toss waste in the trash to protect local waterways (even if the bag says flushable).

Transition slowly by mixing 25% new litter with 75% old litter for a smooth switch.

Let’s hear it for the most misunderstood hero of the backyard: the opossum! 🦝🌿While they might look a little unusual, opossums are actually one of the most hardworking cleaners in our local ecosystem. They are nature's built-in cleanup crew, helping to keep our environment healthy and sanitary by:✨ Scavenging: They safely consume waste, carrion, and rotting fruit.🐛 Pest Control: They happily feast on garden pests like snails, slugs, cockroaches, and even mice.🛡️ Natural Defenses: They are highly resistant to diseases like rabies because their body temperatures are too low for the virus to survive! These gentle, non-aggressive nomads are just passing through at night to do the dirty work that keeps our yards clean and balanced. The next time you see one, give them a little space and a big thank you! 💚

🚗💨 Let’s talk about tires, Possum Town! 🛞👇

We’ve all seen them rolled into ditches, left on the side of the road, or taking up space where they don’t belong. But did you know that abandoned tires are more than just an eyesore? They are heavily toxic to our local environment!

🛑 The Breakdown:

Chemical Leaching: As tires break down, they release heavy metals and chemicals into our soil and waterways, threatening local wildlife.
Fire Hazards: Tire fires are incredibly difficult to put out and release thick, toxic smoke into our air.
Pest Magnets: Sitting tires collect stagnant rainwater, turning into the ultimate breeding ground for mosquitoes. 🦟
🔄 The Good News? Recycling tires gives them a second life! When we properly recycle tires, they get ground up and transformed into useful things like rubberized asphalt for safer roads, playground turf for our kids, and even new consumer products!

Let’s keep Columbus clean, green, and safe! Thank you to all who recently participated in the Community Tire Drop-off hosted by Keep Columbus Beautiful and Waste Pro! 💚

Let’s Keep Columbus Beautiful!

Possum Town is our home, and it’s up to all of us to keep it clean, green, and welcoming. Every wrapper, bottle, or piece of plastic left on the ground takes away from the charm of our community.

Littering doesn't just look bad—it impacts our local economy, wildlife and drains resources that could be used to improve our parks, roads and neighborhoods.

How you can make a difference today:

Use the bins: Always dispose of your trash in designated receptacles.
Keep a stash bag: Keep a small bag in your car for litter until you find a trash can.
Lead by example: If you see a safe piece of litter, pick it up! A little effort goes a long way.
Let’s take pride in our community. Let’s Pick It Up, Possum Town! Don’t Be a Litter Critter💚
