I want to be the woman who only looks back to tell how far God has brought her.
I've heard it said that "Eyes are on the front of your head for a reason" or "Don't look back, you're not going that way!"
It is healthy to process things in life, to pray and ask for wisdom, to see where we need to forgive or where we can improve, but it can be unhealthy to constantly live in the past--rehearsing pain, failure, disappointment, or even sin that we've walked away from.
Jesus warns us in Luke 17:32 Remember Lot's wife. She was warned not to look back on her hometown as God was judging it. She disobeyed and was turned into a pillar of salt. Her family lost her, her future nullified.
I turned 43 this year, and God has made Isaiah 43:18-19 my verses of the year.
18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
When God delivers you from the pain of a previous season, you mustn't look back, except to testify to His goodness.
Don't look back! You're not going that way!
