Join the sound and Spirit of Columbus Band Boosters and Columbus Parks and Recreation for a morning of holiday fun, hot breakfast and of course a visit with Santa.

Proceeds of this event go to supporting the Sound and Spirit of Columbus. Children under the age of 3 are free, but be sure to register so there is an accurate head count. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Join Columbus Parks and Recreation and Old St. Nick himself at The Commons on December 2 from 12 – 2:30pm. December 2nd Downtown Columbus will be the local hotspot for Holiday Festivities! Before the Annual Festival of Lights Parade, Santa will be available to meet with all the good children of Columbus to hear their Christmas wishes and for a photo. This event is free for all ages and we ask that you bring your own means of capturing a photo. This is a drop-in event, no registration necessary!

Registration is open for our Safe @ Home Class by Safe Sitter® with Council for Youth Development Bartholomew County ! Register by February 9 at cbusinparks.com/safe-at-home
Safe @ Home is a 90-minute program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe when they are home alone. Students learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.

Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps towards independence. Class is led by a certified instructor from the Council for Youth Development.

As the temperature continue to drop, nothing sounds better than a fresh cup of coffee! Register for our Winter Barista Class by January 24 at cbusinparks.com/coffee

If you are an absolute coffee fanatic and looking to step up your coffee game to make café quality drinks in the comfort of your own kitchen, this is the class for you! Join us in the morning on January 28 from 9:30am- 11am at The Commons for a hands-on class in at-home coffee making. We will go over several simple methods, tips and tricks you can use to maximize the deliciousness of your daily brew. This class is all about the at-home barista; no need for super fancy (and expensive) equipment! We will go through reasonable equipment upgrades for a normal kitchen and simple techniques that will pay dividends in the final result of your coffee. We will try an assortment of different styles and roasts to help you identify flavors in your cup and to build the type of coffee flavor portfolio that works for you!

Discover the art of Japanese Taiko drumming, which has been played in Japan for over 2000 years. The word taiko means big drum, and the art form incorporates large drums, body movement, vocalization, and various instruments. All drums are provided. No drumming experience necessary. All you need is the desire to play, have fun, and a willingness to share the joy of taiko with others. During these fun and energetic classes, participants will get a full workout all while learning about rhythm and drumming through the use of games, dance and drumming. Students are required to buy their own drumsticks for $15 on the first day of class.

Is your 6th – 8th grade child looking to be more independent at home and even start babysitting for siblings, friends or other families? We’ll explore the characteristics of a good babysitter and cover caring for infants and toddlers, basic first aid and CPR, what to do in an emergency, etc. Class will be led by a certified Safe Sitter® instructor from the Council for Youth Development and CPR and First Aid will be covered by a licensed instructor and students will receive and be working from the Safe Sitter® training book.

Looking for a new activity to do with your kids? Something interactive yet individual…silly yet studious…accessible yet with the potential to be challenging? Try ukulele! It’s the perfect family hobby! Get started making music together at our new Family Ukulele class taught by Allie Jean!

You and your kids will learn how to participate in music-making at a level that is appropriate for each of you. We will learn how to hold, mute, and strum our ukes. Then we will learn about how to tune them so they sound good. We will learn what to do with our left hand to make even better sounds and what to do with our right hand to keep a steady beat. We will sing and accompany ourselves on familiar songs, new songs, and songs Allie Jean made up. Preview the songs by listening to her album SING AND PLAY ALL DAY, available on all streaming platforms.
