A great cause & a good reason to visit the Columbus Bar in downtown Columbus!!!

Mugs for Muffs is back at the Columbus Bar Power House Brewing Company !!!!!

Many people with autism struggle with sensory issues in loud places. Last year, we raised almost $300 to purchase a set of 21 earmuffs for the network to use during loud events. We are hoping to raise enough money this year to buy additional sets and make the earmuffs more available to the group!

Visit the Columbus Bar and donate your extra change to help support our cause! 💛🍻

Good News! GOVERNOR HOLCOMB SIGNS LANDMARK LEGISLATION SUPPORTING THE INDEPENDENCE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Governor Holcomb has signed Senate Enrolled Act 380 into law, requiring Less Restrictive Alternatives, including Supported Decision-Making, to be considered before the court will appoint a guardian.

The Arc of Indiana is thrilled that SEA 380 has been signed into law. It is always our goal to make sure that people with disabilities have as much independence as possible for as long as possible in their lives. Supported Decision Making will allow that to happen and be an important option for people with disabilities to remain in control of decisions affecting their lives. We were happy to work with Indiana Disability Rights and Self Advocates of Indiana to get this legislation passed.

There are few words to express what we feel when we learn of an event like the tragic act of hate at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh that took the lives of so many. For those of us in this field to learn that two of the victims were brothers who lived in a group home, supported by ACHIEVA in Pittsburgh, brought this closer to home.

We have entered a time in our country's history that is a turning point. We can choose to ask others to change, and certainly others should. But we should all look to ourselves and see what we can do to change the world around us one person at a time; one community at a time. We all have to be messengers in this time and not just look to others.

One way is to help others with the sadness they feel, both in Pittsburgh and in our own homes and communities. The sadness is real and will only be overcome by each of us acting. With these and other tragedies in mind, we will be working on a series on helping people grieve, helping them grow with the love and support of each of us.

Thank you for what you do every day - you make such a difference and you are needed today more than ever.

Thanks to all who attended The Arc's & SAT's 2018 Candidates Forum on Disability Issues this week. We appreciate candidates Dale Nowlin, Ryan Lauer, Greg Walker, Ross Thomas and Steve Schoettmer for participating and sharing their responses to our questions on disability issues.

We heard some interesting comments and pledges to support our issues. If you missed our program state legislative candidates have another forum tonight, Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 at the Columbus Learning Center. And while the focus will be on issues broader than disability, maybe you can be there and ask a question.
