Friends of Westgate Park is seeking board members if you are looking for a way to get involved in the community!

Friends of Westgate Park is seeking board members if you are looking for a way to get involved in the community!

**Important organization update! Please read the statement below**

Friends of Westgate Park (FOWP) was formed to beautify, support, and advocate for Westgate Park through volunteer stewardship, fundraising, and partnership with local stakeholders. We have existed as an organization since 2007, and we’re grateful to everyone who has helped move this mission forward.

While our recent cleanup events in the park have been productive (thanks to partnerships with other fantastic volunteer organizations), our current board cannot sustainably meet the administrative, operational, and governance responsibilities required of an active nonprofit. Without new board members and/or committed stakeholders stepping forward, FOWP may need to dissolve. Dissolution is a last resort, but our path forward will be guided by what’s most feasible.

Next steps:
-Recruit 2-3 new board members to restore governance capacity and maintain operations.
-Explore a partnership or subsidiary model with another community organization.
-Potentially dissolve the organization if no viable leadership or transition plan emerges.

We are placing the request for additional board members on all of our communication channels; please help spread the word for us. If you have been looking for a way to make a tangible impact in the neighborhood, this is that moment! Even a small group of committed people can stabilize the organization and protect the work that has been built over the years. A green thumb is NOT a requirement to become a board member! A background or interest in finance, administrative work, volunteer coordination, landscaping, social media, and civic engagement are skillsets that are strongly desired. The time commitment for a board member is approximately 10 hours per month from March - October.
