Are you a nurse or paramedic that has wanted to work for MedFlight but has not pulled the trigger because you don’t have a desire to fly? You can still work for MedFlight. The mobile ICU is just that, an ICU on wheels. The MICU has the same team make up as the rotor wing division with a critical care nurse and critical care paramedic clinical team. The MICU teams often transport the more medically complex patients including patients in cardiac assist devices including intra-aortic balloon pumps and patients on ECMO. Today our organization gathered to say our goodbyes to a dedicated coworker, partner, and most importantly, our friend! Chuck Calissie, you will be missed by all of us. Thank you for getting us safely home over your years of service.

We would also like to show thanks and appreciation to our partners at Riverside Methodist Hospital and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for the care given to him over the years. In addition, thank you for joining us today in his Honor Walk as he was able to donate some of his organs to others. The care shown by all involved highlights that in our care of others, we are all one team.

While many people know that Medflight was created by the merging of Grant LifeFlight and OSU Skymed in 1995, many don’t realize in 1996, Riverside Methodist Hospital’s Mobile ICU program was merged into Medflight to create a comprehensive critical care transport program. This year marks 30 years of the MICU program at Medflight.
