DCS is giving back to the Columbus community!

For almost 20 years, DCS students have been in a partnership with Columbus Community Gardens(CCG.) They allowed us to garden with them without having to pay for plots and DCS agreed to grow plants for its members and the greater Columbus community.

Last year, DCS was able to move all their gardens to school property. But when CCG asked for help in their new space, DCS stepped up in big way!

On Friday, May 15th, DCS K-3 students spent the afternoon picking rocks in CCGs new space to make it ready for its gardeners. πŸ’ͺ🏽πŸͺ¨ (And every child growing up in rural Wisconsin deserves to experience rock picking!😁)

Students heard about DCS alum walking trips to the old CCG and how so many people in the community have been able to grow food for their families over the years via this wonderful agreement.

DCS was so happy to give back and show CCG some love!

HAPPY GARDENING CCG! πŸ’šπŸŒ»πŸ«›πŸ…

This week's sponsor items are flower chalkboards.

We are in need of flower chalkboards to hang on the fence. Our teachers filled out a grant and received money to buy 1 flower chalkboard! Congratulations to them! We are still in need of 2 more. These chalkboards can be used for so many different things. They can be used to practice math, writing and spelling, and just allowing kids to be creative.

If you would like to sponsor a chalkboard, drop the money off in the office labeled Dream Garden Chalk Board Sponsor.

Thanks for all your support.

Remember support can come in forms other than money. Spread the word and share our posts!

🚨Lights Out Alert! 🚨 Tonight, an estimated 17.6 million birds will fly over Wisconsin!

We’re urging everyone to turn off or dim non-essential outdoor lights and close window shades from 11 p.m.–6 a.m. to help birds safely on their journey.

Most birds migrate at night, and light pollution can disorient them, leading to deadly window collisions. In addition to turning down the lights, you can also help by treating windows. If you’re looking for a quick fix, draw lines on your windows (no more than 2” apart) with a bar of soap or washable window markers.

A few simple steps can save countless birds, conserve energy, and protect our night skies. 🌌🐦

Want migration alerts sent straight to your inbox? Sign up for Cornell Lab of Ornithology BirdCast alerts through the link in the comments. BirdCast added 4 Wisconsin cities this year: Appleton, La Crosse, Madison, and Milwaukee. If you don’t live near one, choose the closest city to you.

BirdCast sends alerts only on the biggest migration nights; about 8–10 nights each season that account for roughly half of all migration traffic.

DCS 3rd graders are studying measurement in math, and physics in science.

They’ve practiced telling time and measured weight, mass and length.

At Astico, they learned about compasses and practiced navigating.
