REMINDER:
On Monday, August 31, 2026, The MUW Police Department will conduct a Physical Fitness Test for individuals interested in applying for our patrol officer position. The test will begin at approximately 9:00 AM (Rain or Shine). The location will be the Pohl Gymnasium (Pohl Gym 1100 College St, Columbus, MS 39701). The test will consist of a 1.5-mile run, push- ups and an agility drill. To be considered for hire, participants must pass all components of the test with a minimum score of 50%. Scoring requirements can be found at: https://www.dps.ms.gov/MLEOTA/physical-fitness-requirements . If you have any questions, you may contact our department at (662) 241-7777.

MUW Campus Parking Permit Information
Friendly reminder that new parking decals are available, please make sure you have a valid parking permit if you plan to park on campus property.

Parking Permit Cost
First parking permit: $35.00
Additional parking permits: $10.00 each
Fees for students will be charged to the student's university account
Fees for employees are processed as a payroll deduction

How to Register
Log in to W-Connect.
Click the black and red MUW Parking icon to set up your parking account
Once your account is set up, come to the MUW Police Department to pick up your parking permit
If you created an account last year, you do not have to create a new account, you may come by our office and pick up your new permit
If you experience any issues or have trouble setting up your parking account, please come by our office, and we will be happy to assist you

Important Deadline
The previous year's permits are set to expire on September 1, 2026. After this date, officers will begin issuing citations to vehicles for "Expired Decal" and vehicles with "No Decal."

Please be advised that vehicles should not park along the southbound lane of 11th Street South.

It is illegal to park along any section of the street where the curb is painted yellow or where “No Parking” signs are posted. Vehicles parked in these areas are subject to receiving parking citations and/or being towed at the owner’s expense.

Please be advised that Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency will test the Tornado Warning Siren System and Weather Alert Receivers this morning, at 10:00 a.m. The sirens will be activated to test their operational status prior to the arrival of severe weather. If severe weather is forecast, or is observed in the area, the test will be postponed until the next monthly test to avoid confusion.

Our department extends its appreciation to Chief Ward for taking the time to meet with Chief Vibrock.

Building and maintaining strong partnerships with our local first responder agencies is essential to enhancing the safety and security of our campus community. We value the collaboration and shared commitment to protecting those we serve.

Today marks an exciting step forward for our community! Chief Ward and MUW Chief Vibrock established a collobarative partnership dedicated to building stronger relationships, and creating new opportunities for students and citizens. They are working together to make Columbus a safer place to live, learn and strive.

From Tuesday, July 21, through Thursday, July 23, Columbus Fire & Rescue and PHI Air Medical will conduct helicopter landing zone training near Pohl Gymnasium.

You may see emergency vehicles, fire personnel, and a helicopter in the area. This is only a training exercise—there is no emergency.

During National Police Week, we proudly honor and recognize the dedicated men and women of the Mississippi University for Women Police Department.

Thank you to our officers for your professionalism, integrity, and commitment to keeping our campus community safe each and every day. Your service and willingness to answer the call do not go unnoticed.

This week, we also remember and pay tribute to the law enforcement officers across the nation who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Please join us in thanking our officers for their continued dedication to serving and protecting The W community.

The Callaway Parking Lot will be closed beginning tonight at 7:00 PM for multiple campus events, including a Housing & Residence Life car wash, Homecoming, and IHL listening sessions.

Please move all vehicles before 7:00 PM. The lot will reopen next Tuesday evening.
