And we’re lucky to have the new library building right here near McDowell! Our partnership with the library is a wonderful way to connect our students with the community.

In our ELL classes, we learn English… and so much more!

Yesterday, our ELL students celebrated the birthdays of the month with their teacher, Nicole Moore — and these photos say it all!

Our classrooms are places where students learn, laugh, share stories, and build friendships. Over time, classmates become like family.

And one of the best parts? The food!
Our students bring a little piece of their culture to the classroom — which means we get to experience the world one delicious dish at a time!

BIG NEWS FROM McDOWELL ADULT EDUCATION!

We are incredibly proud to share that McDowell Education Center Adult Education has been recognized as an Indiana Adult Education Program of Excellence for the 2025–26 program year!

This award, presented by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, recognizes adult education programs that exceed state goals and expectations and serve as models for adult education across Indiana.

This achievement is a reflection of the hard work of our amazing staff and teachers, but most importantly, it represents the dedication, growth, and success of our students.

Every HSE diploma earned, every English skill developed, every career goal reached, and every student who takes a step toward a better future is part of this accomplishment.

We are honored to serve our students and our community, and we are excited to continue this work in the 2026–27 program year!

WE ARE BACK!

After a long summer break, our English classes are officially back! And look at this amazing classroom!

Today was the first day of English class with Nicole Moore, and we were so happy to see both returning students and many new faces ready to learn, grow, and work toward their goals!

We are excited for another great year of learning, new friendships, new opportunities, and lots of progress!

Thank You for an Amazing Summer!

Today marks the end of our Summer Classes at McDowell Adult Education Center!

We would like to thank all of our students and staff who helped make this another incredible summer. Your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm are what make our McDowell family so special.

Classes will resume on August 10, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back soon!

Exploring New Opportunities in Our Community!

Our English Class Summer Group, led by Teacher Michelle Newland, had a wonderful visit to the beautiful new BCPL Eastside!

Students enjoyed an engaging morning with Sandy Allman, who gave us a fantastic tour and shared information about the many free resources, programs, technology services, and learning opportunities available to our community.

A big thank you to Sandy and the library staff for making us feel so welcome and for showing our students how the library can support learning, growth, and success beyond the classroom.

We encourage everyone to visit the new BCPL Eastside location at 421 McClure Road and discover all it has to offer!

High School Equivalency Test Update & Success Story

We would like to inform our community that there will be no High School Equivalency (HSE) testing until the week of August 20th.

However, you can register now and get ready to start your journey with us in August through our FREE HSE classes. This is the perfect opportunity to begin preparing, build confidence, and stay on track toward your goals.

And today, we celebrate a truly inspiring achievement.

Katia Legarda has officially earned her HSE diploma!
With dedication, persistence, and quiet determination, she stayed committed to her goal until the very end. A sweet soul with a contagious smile, Katia reminds us that perseverance leads to real accomplishment.

Her journey is a beautiful example of what is possible when you keep moving forward.

Today, we celebrated the retirement of an incredible leader, mentor, and friend — Mark Newell.

For so many students, staff, and families, Mark was much more than a director. He was a daily example of kindness, dedication, and compassion. Whether under the hot summer sun or in the middle of snow and freezing mornings, he was always outside welcoming students with a smile on his face and joy in his heart.

How many times did we see him sitting in the hallways, talking with students, encouraging them, helping them believe in themselves, and changing lives one conversation at a time? He made every person feel seen, valued, and important.

Mark’s impact on our school and our community is impossible to measure. His character, generosity, and genuine care for others are truly one of a kind. He didn’t just help students succeed — he helped transform lives, including ours.

Today is not goodbye, but a celebration of an amazing legacy that will continue to live in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege to know him.

Thank you for everything, Mark. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
