The Department of Neighborhoods team members and other City of Columbus employees joined together today to attend the Columbus Metropolitan Club luncheon about Columbus' new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team in 2028.

This landmark franchise brings major investment, new facilities, and a massive boost to our region's economic and civic future.

How did this historic deal happen? Who stands to benefit? What will it take to turn this new team into lasting, equitable public value?

Today's forum dug deep into all of that and we're excited for the future of women's soccer in Columbus! The incredible panel of local leaders and experts broke down what this means for the rising power of women's sports and Columbus’s growing national profile.

The panel included:

🔹 Mayor Andrew J. Ginther – City of Columbus
🔹 Linda Logan – CEO & President, Greater Columbus Sports Commission
🔹 Mary Shepro – President of Business Operations, Columbus Crew
🎙️ Kristen McFarland (Moderator) – News Reporter, WBNS 10TV

...HOT AND HUMID TODAY AND THURSDAY...

The combination of temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90 with high humidity will result in the heat index reaching 95 to 100
today, and then again on Thursday.

With these being the first hot days of the year, it may take some
time to get acclimated to these conditions. So, be extra cautious
and take precautions to deal with the heat.

If planning to be outdoors for extended periods, drink plenty of water, wear light and loose clothing, and take frequent breaks.

Last night the New American Leadership Academy, administered by the Department of Neighborhoods, met for a class on civic engagement.

Many curious cohort members asked questions of Columbus' Inspector General, learning the purpose of the office and how to navigate it.

Neighborhoods also presented about our department and all we have to offer residents.

Thank you to everyone who came out--whether it was to teach or learn. Every day, a little more understanding goes a long way in making Columbus an even greater place to live.
