Motorists traveling through the south side of town today, Monday, Oct. 26, should be prepared for congestion and possible delays as crews install temporary poles at 8th Street and 33rd Avenue to facilitate repairs to a traffic signal damaged in last week’s vehicle accident.

“We expect it to be congested all day,” City Public Works Director Chuck Sliva said.
Traffic will be completely stopped at some point during the work, though the timing has not yet been determined. Motorists should plan accordingly and consider alternate routes if possible.

“We just want everyone to be aware and be safe,” Sliva said.

A recent City Council discussion put food trucks on the menu, but the focus wasn't on what they serve. Instead, council members aimed to clear the air about the City of Columbus' role in their operation.

Mayor Jim Bulkley and members of the City Council said they had heard questions and concerns about the city's involvement with food trucks, so the mayor added the topic to the Oct. 19 meeting agenda to help clarify the city's role.

“The City of Columbus does not regulate food trucks,” City Chief Building & Code Official Andy Woehrer said. “Food trucks are regulated by the State of Nebraska.”
