CITY OF COLUMBUS PRESS RELEASE:

Columbus Police investigate shots fired outside Micek’s Bar

COLUMBUS — Columbus Police are investigating an early Saturday morning report of shots fired from a firearm near Micek’s Bar.

Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 1:17 a.m. Aug. 29, 2026, after receiving a report of shots being fired. Officers were advised the suspect had left the area in a black pickup.

Upon arrival, officers observed the pickup leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody. A firearm was located inside the vehicle and seized as evidence.

Preliminary evidence and witness statements indicate a scuffle occurred outside the bar as patrons were leaving.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly went to a vehicle and retrieved a handgun. The suspect then displayed the handgun in a threatening manner and fired it into the air before getting into the vehicle and leaving the area.

Several witnesses have been identified and interviewed. Police said several people who were present during the incident fled the area for their safety.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Columbus Police Department is asking anyone who was present during the incident to contact Sgt. Romshek or Officer French at the Columbus Police Department
