That’s a wrap on the 2026 CCAO Summer Symposium!

County Commissioners, Executives and Council Members from across Ohio gathered in Hamilton County earlier this week for three days of learning, discussion and collaboration focused on the issues facing county government.

Sessions covered county budgeting, emergency response, leadership, artificial intelligence and more, including a closer look at Hamilton County’s response to the addiction crisis.

The Summer Symposium also provided an opportunity for county leaders to exchange ideas, learn from one another and bring new perspectives back to their counties.

Thank you to Hamilton County for hosting us and to all of our county leaders, speakers and partners who helped make this year’s Symposium a success!

We look forward to building on the ideas and conversations from this week throughout Ohio’s 88 counties.

As Ohio Proud Month comes to a close, CCAO is celebrating the farmers, producers and businesses that make agriculture such an important part of Ohio.

In Wayne County, seven businesses participate in the Ohio Proud program, representing orchards, poultry, vineyards, livestock, meat processing and more.

“Agriculture is part of the foundation of Wayne County,” said Wayne County Commissioner Matt Martin. “Programs like Ohio Proud help connect consumers with products produced here in Ohio while supporting the farmers and businesses.”

Administered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Proud connects consumers with products grown, raised and processed in Ohio while helping promote Ohio farmers and businesses.

Another great story in the Summer edition of County Leader highlights a simple idea in Logan County that has grown into a meaningful tribute to local veterans.

In “A New Life for Courthouse Flags: Logan County’s Tribute to Veterans,” CCAO Outreach and Member Engagement Manager Rachel Reedy shares how the Logan County Commissioners began presenting American flags that have flown over the county courthouse to deserving local veterans.

What started with Commissioner Mike Yoder asking why the flags couldn’t be given to veterans rather than simply retired has become a monthly tradition. Since 2023, veterans have been honored alongside family and friends, receiving a courthouse-flown flag and recognition for their service.

The program has even expanded to local schools, helping connect younger generations with veterans and their stories.

It’s a great example of how a simple idea at the county level can become a lasting tradition of gratitude and respect.

Clark County is joining counties across Ohio in celebrating Ohio Proud Month and recognizing the local businesses helping showcase the very best of our state!

The Clark County Board of Commissioners recently presented proclamations to two local Ohio Proud businesses: S&S Bee Company, represented by Scott Taylor, and Young’s Jersey Dairy, represented by John Young.

Ohio Proud, a program of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, celebrates businesses and producers with products that are made, grown or processed right here in Ohio. Recognition at the county level helps shine a light on the farmers, producers and locally owned businesses that contribute to Ohio’s agricultural economy.

CCAO congratulates S&S Bee Company and Young’s Jersey Dairy and thanks the Clark County Commissioners for helping celebrate Ohio Proud!

The Summer edition of County Leader marks Kevin Williams’ inaugural column as CEBCO Managing Director of Health and Wellness, a role he stepped into in June!

Kevin brings more than 35 years of county and municipal government experience to CEBCO—and a connection to the program that goes back to its beginnings. He was part of the original CCAO feasibility team that helped establish CEBCO and later served on its Board of Directors.

In his first County Leader update, Kevin shares news from across CEBCO, including Highland County becoming its 49th member county, highlights from the recent Board Retreat, and summer health and wellness initiatives.

Ohio’s counties join people across the nation in mourning the passing of Dolly Parton, a legendary entertainer whose extraordinary legacy extends far beyond the music she shared with the world.

Here in Ohio, Dolly made a lasting difference in the lives of our youngest citizens through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio. Her vision of putting books directly into the hands of children grew into a remarkable statewide effort reaching families in all 88 Ohio counties.

Over the years, CCAO members have been proud to support the growth of the Imagination Library, working alongside First Lady Fran DeW**e and other partners to help ensure children across Ohio have access to books and are encouraged to develop a lifelong love of reading. In several counties, county leaders also made direct investments in the program to help expand its reach to local children and families.

As First Lady Fran DeW**e shared, more than one million Ohio children have received nearly 28 million free books through the program.

Dolly never forgot her rural roots, and she understood the difference that access to books and literacy can make in the life of a child. Her vision brought together state and county leaders, local partners, and countless others around a simple but powerful idea: put books in the hands of children and give them an opportunity to dream.

Her songs will be remembered around the world, but here in Ohio, her legacy can also be found on bookshelves and in the hands of children in every corner of our state.

Ohio’s counties extend our deepest sympathies to Dolly’s family, friends, and the millions whose lives she touched. Her generosity and commitment to children will continue making a difference in Ohio for generations to come.

August is Ohio Proud Month, and counties across Ohio are helping celebrate the farmers, producers and small businesses that make agriculture such an important part of our state.

The Licking County Board of Commissioners recently proclaimed August as Ohio Proud Month in Licking County, recognizing local food and agricultural producers and the important role they play in the local economy.

Created in 1993, Ohio Proud is the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s marketing program promoting food and agricultural products that are made, grown or processed right here in Ohio. Agriculture is Ohio’s number one industry, contributing more than $105 billion to our state’s economy.

When Ohioans buy local, those dollars are reinvested close to home—supporting farmers and businesses, creating jobs, and helping keep our Main Streets and local economies strong.

CCAO applauds Licking County and counties across the state for supporting the people who grow, make and produce Ohio Proud products.

In the Summer edition of County Leader, Rumpke Waste & Recycling highlights its work with county officials and the role transfer stations play in making waste and recycling services more efficient.

The article features projects in Delaware, Clermont and Clark counties, including Rumpke’s newest $16 million Clark County transfer station, which opened July 1 and created new jobs while expanding recycling and waste disposal options for residents and businesses.

From sustainability and infrastructure to economic development, these partnerships are helping counties plan for the future.

It may be summer, but now is the time for counties to start preparing for winter.

In the latest edition of County Leader, CORSA’s newest Risk Control Consultant, Aaron Shirley, shares practical steps counties can take now to protect facilities from frozen pipes, heating failures, roof damage and other costly winter losses.

From inspecting HVAC systems and roofs to protecting pipes and having an emergency response plan in place, a little preparation now can make a big difference when temperatures fall.

Governor Mike DeW**e has requested that FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration begin federal damage assessments as Ohio counties continue recovering from repeated storms.

FEMA Individual Assistance: Adams, Athens, Brown, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Darke, Franklin, Hamilton, Highland, Licking, Madison, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry, Preble and Washington counties.

FEMA Public Assistance: Adams, Brown, Clermont, Fairfield, Franklin, Highland, Jackson, Madison, Meigs, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Pickaway, Preble and Washington counties.

All counties listed above could also qualify for SBA low-interest loan programs if federal damage thresholds are met.

These assessments are an important step toward determining eligibility for federal assistance. CCAO thanks Governor DeW**e for his efforts to expedite this process and help ensure impacted counties and Ohioans can access needed assistance as quickly as possible.

We also thank the county officials, emergency management agencies, first responders and local crews continuing to lead response and recovery efforts across Ohio.
