This is how strong schools and strong communities grow, Mississippi! 💙 This is what dreams are made of!

We love seeing our future educators scattered across schools and districts, learning, growing, and already making an impact.

These experiences are about more than becoming great teachers. They’re about preparing educators who will pour their knowledge, care, and leadership back into the children, schools, and communities that need them.

At The W, we don’t just send our students into the classroom. We show up for them there. 💙 Back to school means we’re back in the field! 🍎📚

SOE Faculty Emily Ford has been making the rounds at local schools, checking in with our future educators and offering support, encouragement, feedback, and guidance along the way. So proud of our SOE students out in classrooms making the world a better place!

Top university in Mississippi according to TIME! If you know ANYONE who wants to go into education and have a rewarding career teaching, send them our way! Our W grads are making a difference in local communities! We are so PROUD of this work!

The W has been recognized as one of America’s Best Colleges of 2026-27 by TIME.

“We are proud to be named the top university in Mississippi in the inaugural TIME Best Colleges rankings. This marks the third time in just over a year that a major national publication has ranked The W at the top among Mississippi universities. This honor shows how our continued work is making a difference for our students and the state’s workforce," Interim President Scott Tollison said.

As the highest ranked institution of higher learning, private or public, in Mississippi, The W earned an aggregate score five points higher than any other university in the state. The W’s highest marks came in the areas of student outcomes and learning environment.

There is something special about a place where you feel safe enough to learn, grow, ask questions, find your voice, and become who you are meant to be.

For generations, The W has created that kind of place.

We are proud of our history of educating and empowering women, and equally proud that today, The W is a place where every student can belong and thrive.

Small classes. Faculty who know your name. A supportive campus community. A public university price with the personal experience and connection you might expect from a private college.

That is why this recognition means so much.

Newsweek ranked The W No. 1 in Mississippi and No. 14 in the nation among America’s Best Colleges for Women for 2026.

For more than 140 years, we have been teaching, preparing, and supporting generations of students.

Come see us. Come find your place. Come see why The W is one of the best at what we do.
