Welcome to the official page of Polk County Local Government in North Carolina.
Polk County is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Piedmont. The county was formed in 1855 and is named for William Polk, a colonel in the Revolutionary War. As of the 2010 census, Polk County's population was 20,510. The county is divided into six townships – the county seat of Columbus, Cooper's Gap, Green Creek, Saluda, Tryon and White Oak.
