Loup customers are being targeted by scammers. The caller told the customer he'd overpaid his electricity bill and offered to refund the money to his bank account. Luckily, the customer did not give out any private information.

This is just one tactic utility scammers employ. Please read the following tips to spot utiility scams and consider sharing them with your friends and family:
โš ๏ธ DISCONNECTION DECEPTION: Scammers call threatening disconnection of your service unless you pay immediately with a prepaid card. Loup will never threaten immediate disconnection.
โš ๏ธ OVERPAYMENT TRICKS: Scammers may call claiming you have overpaid and need to provide personal banking information so they can give you a refund.
โš ๏ธ SPOOFING: Well-organized scammers can replicate the phone number that appears on a caller ID to make it look like it's coming from Loup or your utility provider. Be cautious.
โŒNever give personal information to an unknown caller or visitor. Our representatives have access to the details they need to service your account.
๐Ÿ“ž When in doubt, hang up and call us back directly.

Loup is a not-for-profit public power company. But what does that mean? It means that our electric rates are 34.7% below the national average and 11% below the state average. It means that Loup pays $5.9 million in lease payments to our communities and $2.3 million to our counties every year. We have energy efficiency programs and incentives for our customers and encourage economic development. Our employees live here and are invested in our communities. It means affordability, reliability, and sustainability. And all that means a lot to us.
