Ohio Facilities Construction Commission

Ohio Facilities Construction Commission Leading the planning, design, and construction of public facilities in Ohio.

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) is responsible for guiding capital projects for state agencies, state-supported universities and community colleges, including Ohio’s comprehensive public K-12 school construction and renovation program, and managing the grants process for cultural, sports facilities and school security programs. The Commission merged the operations of the State A

rchitect's Office and the Ohio School Facilities Commission on September 10, 2012, combining the state's construction authority and resources within a single entity. The new Commission sets uniform rules, procedures, and standardized documents and is responsible for construction delivery methods, construction documents, and process and procedures. The Ohio School Facilities Commission continues to exist within the new consolidated agency and focuses on programmatic and planning issues related to K-12 construction. The authority to approve, award, and administer design, construction, and other specialty contracts now falls under the umbrella of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

An important milestone took place in May at the site of the future Colerain Elementary School being built for the Northwest Local School District in Hamilton County.

Steel er****on began in the kindergarten wing, while progress continued on the west side of the classroom wing with block walls rising. Elsewhere, concrete crews formed and poured sections of the site retaining wall and courtyard seating areas.

Foundation work has been completed on the main building pad, and foundation block was being laid around the stage. Finally, water and fire lines were installed around the building site and continue toward a nearby road.

The new Colerain Elementary School will serve 750 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 5 in a modern, future-ready learning environment, designed to inspire and support their education and growth. The 91,839-square-foot facility is on track to open for the start of the 2027-28 school year.

Thank you to Project Manager Dorothy Leachman and Program Manager Julie Taggart for their work on this project, and special thanks to our partners from Graybach LLC and SHP.

The Ohio Village renovation project at the Ohio History Connection in Columbus remains on track – pun intended – with the recent move of the village’s bright red caboose to its final location.

Thank you to our partners at Continental Building Company for these photos taken during the move, which was completed in mid-May.

The Ohio Village renovation project will improve accessibility, replace aging infrastructure, and enhance visitor experiences. Improvements will include:
• Infrastructure upgrades, including underground utilities: electric, gas, water, data, and security
• Accessibility enhancements for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant walkways, building approaches, and streetscapes
• Landscape and hardscape features include:
– A redesigned Village Green and bandstand
– A forested “hinterland” and prairie buffer between the Ohio History Center and Ohio Village
• Interpretive and Visitor Experience enhancement

The renovation project, a part of the Ohio History Connection’s Campus 2.OH! initiative, will continue until the upgraded and improved Ohio Village reopens late this year.

Thank you to our partners on this project: the Ohio History Connection, architecture partner Schooley Caldwell, and Continental Building Company. Special thanks to our team members on this endeavor: Program Manager Thomas Baker and Project Manager Brett Woodring.

Big news from downtown Uhrichsville. The Clay Capital Heritage Center recently celebrated its grand opening, which we aided with a trio of cultural facilities grants we administered.

A former department store on East Third Street, the Clay Capital Heritage Center is a two-story building with clay industry exhibits on the first floor. Guests can check out the museum’s clay mine entrance, watch films in its Beehive Kiln Theater, and more.

Congrats to Dennison Railroad Depot Museum Executive Director Wendy Zucal and the Uhrichsville community. Special thanks to Senior Grants Administrator Jessica DeLong for her efforts.

Being built next to the recently completed Fairborn High School, Fairborn Middle School will be 152,293-square feet and will serve more than 1,000 students in grades 6-8 when it opens in spring 2027.

Thank you to our partners on this project: Garmann Miller, Peterson Construction Company, and STAN Engineers, along with a special thanks to Associate Program Manager Ryan Meeds and Deputy Chief of Planning Valerie Montoya for their efforts.
