Gypsy Meadows Camping Area on the Newport-Sullivan Lake District will be reserved for administrative use from June 17, 2026 to June 21, 2026.

The site will be reserved for a WTA volunteer work crew that will be doing trail work in the vicinity.

There are other campsites available to the public along Sullivan Creek on a first come/first served basis.

🌲KNOW BEFORE YOU GO🌲

Recurring wind events in our region and across the Colville National Forest have left many trails with significant blowdown and impassable conditions. Our rec staff and trail partners are working hard to assess these conditions across the forest.

Thanks to a user report, we are aware of the trail conditions on some popular trails on our Newport-Sullivan Lake District: Shedroof Cutoff & Divide 511 & 512, and Thunder Creek 526. The burn area about 3 miles from the Shedroof Cutoff is currently impassable due to blowdowns.

If possible, call your local Ranger District to inquire about conditions before you head out. We can provide you with the most current information we have. If you discover hazardous conditions while out on the forest, reports like these are very helpful in making other users aware.

**Know before you go**

The Bead Lake Boat Launch on our Newport-Sullivan Lake Ranger District will be closed weekdays from June 8th to June 26th for site maintenace and improvements.

The boat launch will remain open on the weekends from 8:00 AM on Saturdays to 10:00 PM on Sundays.

Vandalism and intentional damage to public facilities results in hefty repair costs, lengthy downtime of facilities, and...

Vandalism and intentional damage to public facilities results in hefty repair costs, lengthy downtime of facilities, and lost opportunities for other recreators and visitors. The time and money that these repairs consume leave less resources available for projects and improvements at other sites across the Colville National Forest.

Recent vandalism at the Boulder Creek Summit Campground has rendered the only restroom at that site unavailable.

Handy Kan Sanitation of Republic delivered a portable restroom to the site on very short notice to help provide restroom facilities at this site while repairs are being completed. Unfortunately, this tempoarary restroom is not ADA acessible like the vandalized unit, so visitors should plan accordingly.

This is a great reminder to all to take care of forest service facilities. Damage to public infrastructure is not only costly and time consuming, but repairs like these hamper others' ability to enjoy our beautiful forest lands.

June 6th, 2026 is National Trails Day®! It is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, connect with your community, and appreciate our special corner of Washington.

Here on the Colville National Forest, there are hundreds of beautiful hikes to choose from. Why not try one of these fetaured trails? The White Mountain Trail and the Sherman Creek Trail are both located on our Three Rivers Ranger district.

Sherman Creek Trail is fun for the whole family - short, flat, and scenic. White Mountain offers a bit of a challenge both in length (3 miles) and elevation gain (over 1700 feet).

Enjoy some time outside this National Trails Day and celebrate all trails by promoting trail stewardship across all public lands. As always, remember to pack out what you pack in.

Starting this summer, some recreation sites on the Colville National Forest will offer scan-and-pay as a cashless option for visitors. Please note that scan-and-pay is in addition to our standard fee tube payment system. Cash and check will still be accepted at these sites, along with the option to use the scan-and-pay system.

** Mechanical thinning and mastication under way in Kings Lake project area **

The Newport-Sullivan Lake Ranger District will be implememtning mechanical pre-commercial thinning and mastication in the Kings Lake project area this summer.

Machine mastication of trees and slash can be very hazardous as the equipment in use can throw woody debris up to 300 feet. If you are traveling or recreating in the area, please exercise caution and maintain awareness of your surroundings.

At this time there are no area or road closures associated with this project, but baricaides and signs will be placed in the work area as needed. Operations will not occur on the weekends to allow for ease of access during peak hours.

Treating and maintaining this area will provide greater safety to firefighters via fuels reduction, and will limit damage to natural resources in the area.
