Well, we're just over 1 WEEK away from our Firefighters' Picnic! August 29th is the date!

We don't want to jinx it, but as of right now, the weather looks to be FANTASTIC! Sunny and 80! Knock on wood all next week to keep it that way!

Below, you will see the parade route that's planned out. You will note that there is a QUIET zone for the first 2 blocks. If you or your kiddos have sensory needs, please utilize that space for a silent portion of the parade.

The parade will start at Wallace & Margaret Street and continue past Village Hall on Wallace St. The Fire Station driveway will be the technical end of the parade. Vehicles that are participating in the Touch A Truck event will enter the Fire Station driveway and circle around to park and get ready for Touch A Truck that starts at Noon and runs until 3pm.

We still have 1 more opening for a softball team to enter! Games start at 11am! Here's the link if you would like to register! https://buytickets.at/combinedlocksfirerescue1/2213995

We are going to have a great day of live music from American Platinum, Typsy Gypsy and Grand Union!

Food trucks, kids activity zone including inflatables, face painting and petting zoo! ThedaStar will (hopefully) be making an appearance from 12:30-1:30 - as long as they aren't on a flight!

Fireworks at dusk, and of course, LOTS of Paddle Wheel! And history says that the BEST PADDLE WHEEL deals come at the end of the night!

We will be running on-location raffles for several great prizes including gift cards from Schmalz Custom Landscaping & Garden Center, Inc., Lox Club, cheese boxes from BelGioioso Cheese and a roll back glider from EverGreen Outdoor Furniture, LLC!

We can't wait to see you there! Please take a moment to check out our sponsors that help make this event possible! We couldn't put this on without them!

In addition to our cash raffle that we've been selling tickets for, we will have a few raffles selling the day of the event only!

We have some great sponsors that donated gift cards and product - Schmalz Custom Landscaping & Garden Center, Inc., Lox Club, BelGioioso Cheese. We will be selling only 100 TICKETS for these gift cards, and YOU PICK your prize if your number is drawn! These tickets will be $10.00 each and only 100 will be sold!

We will also be raffling off a Rollback Double Glider donated by EverGreen Outdoor Furniture, LLC! Tickets will be $10.00 and only 100 will be sold on the day of the event!

Make sure you get there early to get your tickets! Drawing will be held after our Big CASH drawing - which is at 5:30PM. Don't worry - we will have a few of those for sale at the bar as well!

We will have a short Fire Apparatus/Public Safety Parade that starts at 11am, proceeds down Wallace St from Margaret St to Memorial Park. The event kicks off at noon with Touch-A-Truck running from 12p-3p.

Bands kick off at Noon starting with American Platinum, followed by Typsy Gypsy and then our headliner band Grand Union starts at 8PM. Fireworks at dusk!

Again, we'd like to give a huge shout out to our sponsors who every year, help make this event possible! We are incredibly grateful for your generosity to help us with this event!

As temperatures and humidity climb over the next few days, Combined Locks Fire & Rescue wants to remind everyone to stay safe and know the difference between Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. Recognizing the signs early can save a life.

☀️ HEAT EXHAUSTION
🔹 Core Body Temperature: Usually below 104°F (40°C)
🔹 Skin: Cool, pale, moist, and clammy
🔹 Sweating: Heavy, drenching sweat
🔹 Mental State: Alert but may feel dizzy, weak, nauseated, or fatigued

✅ What to Do:
• Move the person to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area
• Loosen or remove excess clothing
• Provide cool water or a sports drink if they are awake and able to drink
• Seek medical attention if symptoms do not improve within 30 minutes

🚨 HEAT STROKE – A MEDICAL EMERGENCY
🔴 Core Body Temperature: 104°F (40°C) or higher
🔴 Skin: Hot, red, and usually dry (although it may still be damp after intense exercise)
🔴 Sweating: May stop completely as the body’s cooling system fails
🔴 Mental State: Confusion, slurred speech, irrational behavior, seizures, or loss of consciousness

☎️ What to Do:
• Call 911 immediately
• While waiting for emergency responders, begin aggressive cooling:
• Place the person in an ice bath if possible, OR
• Apply ice packs to the neck, armpits, and groin
• Never give fluids to an unconscious person.

🌡️ Stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on children, older adults, neighbors, and pets.

Your awareness could make all the difference. Stay cool and stay safe! 🚒💙
