As we near the end of this week, we’d like to take a moment to recognize the part of our Public Safety family that’s on the other end of the radio. Our lifeline and the communities’ first point of contact for emergency services.

Happy National Telecommunicator’s Week to our awesome group of dispatchers at Outagamie County Communications Center - 911!

You all have an incredibly stressful, demanding and rewarding job, and there’s no way we’d be able to do ours without you.

Thank you for everything you do for us!

Well, Snowstorm Elsa really did let it go!

Hopefully everyone survived the biggest storm we’ve had in several years! It’s not what we wanted to see right before spring, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Let’s give a huge shout out to the awesome Public Works crew in Combined Locks! They did a fantastic job keeping roads passable for our community! Well done, gentlemen!

While you’re doing cleanup, please remember to take care of the fire hydrant in front of your home. If there’s a fire at your home or your neighbors, this will help firefighters save precious time getting water to the engine to fight the fire with.

Well, winter isn’t over just yet. ❄️

Most have heard about the potential weekend snow storm. The National Weather Service is currently releasing preliminary forecasts for possible accumulation. Please see the pictures below.

If this snow event holds up, here are a few reminders:

• Check furnace intake and exhaust pipes and keep them clear of snow to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup.
• Clear snow around gas meters and exterior vents.
• Keep fire hydrants clear – at least 3 feet around the hydrant and a path to the street.
• Keep vehicles off the streets if possible so DPW crews can clear snow quickly and effectively.
• Take it easy while shoveling and take breaks if needed.
• Slow down while driving and give snowplows plenty of space. Sunday might be a great day to have a family movie and game day at home!
• Check on elderly neighbors who may need help with snow removal.

Please plan accordingly and stay safe if we see significant snowfall.

Last night at approximately 8:45pm, responders from Combined Locks Fire & EMS, Town of Buchanan Fire and Rescue, Wrightstown Fire Department, Hollandtown Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Outagamie County Sheriff's Office and Kaukauna Police were dispatched to Cth Z & Haas Rd in the town of Buchanan for a report of a 2 vehicle crash involving injuries, with one patient trapped and unresponsive.

Due to initial information received from Outagamie County Communications Center - 911, Chief 2901 requested that ThedaStar be contacted to respond to the scene as well.

Dispatched fire departments arrived on scene and quickly began stabilizing the vehicle so our EMT’s could begin patient care, all while the patient was extricated from the vehicle utilizing the JAWS of Life.

Other arriving Fire Department apparatus and members were utilized to shut the road down in all directions, set up a landing zone for ThedaStar, work on debris cleanup and patient transport assistance from the vehicle to the aircraft.

Once the patient was removed, vehicles on scene were removed by Fox Cities Towing and TJ’z Towing.

Agencies on scene were also assisted by Kaukauna Utilities and our dispatchers at Outagamie County Dispatch.

Exceptional inter-county relationships, joint training and mutual aid agreements make calls like this work seamlessly through the teamwork each department provides.

Did you know that when winter permits, the Village of Combined Locks has an ice rink in front of the Fire Station?

Our DPW crew does an amazing job setting this up and maintaining it through winter when it’s cold enough.
