Happy New Year to all Friends members!
The holidays are behind us. We’ve said goodbye to visiting family and friends and packed up the decorations. Now it’s time to jump into 2026 and make it the best it can be.
Last year was a good year for the Friends of Comfort Public Library. Through a combination of membership dues and Book Barn sales, the Friends ended the year with almost $50,000 in the bank. Last year, the Friends contributed $10,000 to the Library for programs and other needs. This year we hope to make another major contribution to continuing the Library’s work in the Comfort community.
This year will offer some challenges and hopefully will be a new chapter for the Friends. The Friends’ Board has several open positions that need to be filled. Those positions are vice-president, secretary, and two at-large spots. Responsibilities include attending an annual meeting, which will not be held this year due to the lack of a working board, and handling Friends business during the year, which is largely conducted via email. If you would be interested in serving on the Friends board or would like more information, contact Anne Pargeter, Friends Board president, at [email protected].
In addition to finding new board members, the Friends have set a goal of having the Book Barn open on both Friday and Saturday. To accomplish this goal, additional Friends volunteers are needed to staff the Book Barn when it is open. This involves greeting browsers, helping them find books, shelving newly donated books and similar tasks. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Anne Pargeter, Friends Board president, at [email protected]. If you love books and enjoy talking to other readers, giving an hour or two to the Book Barn is the perfect way to help.
A decision was made to include the Friends in this year’s Comfort Library’s fundraising appeal (Annual Letter) rather than spend money on a separate mailing. Please consider including the Friends when making your donation to the library this year.
A new year offers new opportunities to help the Friends of Comfort Public Library continue to support the library and the important part it plays in enriching the lives of Comfort residents.
