An Important Update on the Fight for Our Community’s Autonomy
Neighbors, I want to share a transparent update on where things stand with our ongoing efforts to gain independence and taxation control from the developer controlled Reunion Metro District (RMD).
Your boards are fighting hard to regain local authority over our property taxes. Our goal is to significantly lower property taxes from the metro district and to ensure your hard-earned money goes directly toward the high-quality maintenance, services, and community events you expect and deserve.
Yesterday, five board members representing North Range Metropolitan Districts 1, 2, and 3 spent a grueling day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in court-ordered mediation at the downtown Denver law offices of Reunion Metro District’s attorneys. It was an incredibly intense, mentally and emotionally draining day.
Our sole focus was finding a fair solution to end the ongoing lawsuit regarding the MELPA and OSA agreements. We brought multiple creative solutions and variations to the table to try and move our community forward.
Around 2:00 PM, while we were mid-mediation, the Colorado Supreme Court issued its order on RMD’s "Rule 21" motion for an emergency hearing.
To keep this strictly factual: RMD’s attorneys filed this emergency motion after both the District Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals denied RMD’s requests to dismiss our counterclaims that the MELPA is illegal. (I encourage anyone interested in the legal mechanics to look up “Colorado Appellate Rule 21” to understand its specific function).
Even after that Supreme Court order came down, your North Range representatives stayed at the table and continued pushing for a resolution that would end the litigation. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, RMD rejected every compromise we offered and maintained positions that we simply could not agree to.
While legal boundaries limit what more we can share right now, please know that the phrase "the people (Home owners) we represent" was repeated more times than I can count. We are doing everything in our power to make Reunion better and more affordable.

This is a tough, often hidden job. None of your North Range board members are paid a salary. Yesterday, the five of us were ironically the only people in that office not getting paid to be there. These neighbors took a full day off work and spent time away from their other responsibilities to fight for you.
