How was your weekend, Commerce City?

Ours was busy protecting and serving the people and the community we love. We took a violent domestic violence assault suspect into custody after he lost a foot chase, we arrested a man for child abuse after he attacked a group of teens and threatened them with a knife, and we recovered a stolen semi and cuffed the culprit.

The CCPD Traffic Team goes the extra mile (underneath some of our city’s largest trucks) to keep our roadways safe!

For several years, the unit has been certified to conduct CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) inspections, making sure tractor-trailers and trucks hauling large loads on our streets and highways are safe enough to be driving next to you and your family.

Wednesdays are typically inspection days— and we always end up with some startling stats.

On a recent Wednesday we partnered with the Port of Entry to conduct 41 inspections that resulted in 103 violations, 15 of which were OOS (Out Of Service) violations, meaning serious enough to render the vehicle unsafe to drive until the problem(s) could be repaired.

Sergeant Aguilar and Officers Keadle and Nance are always working to ensure you can get to where you’re going safely.

Sometimes it takes a village.

After a drunk driver struck another vehicle-- transporting a toddler and an infant-- at East 84th Ave. and Rosemary St. last night, concerned witnesses and the driver of the victim vehicle prevented the at-fault driver from fleeing the scene before we could arrive and place him under arrest.

Fortunately the two babies and everyone else inside the victim vehicle were okay, but it could have been worse-- and the suspect could have gotten away.

Thank you to those who intervened safely to make sure we could hold him accountable. Public safety is a partnership.

How was your weekend, Commerce City?

Ours was spent protecting and serving the community we love. Technology helped us arrest a felony menacing suspect (who had pulled a gun at a gas pump), we took a barricaded kidnapping suspect into custody without incident or injury to anyone (the children he was holding captive and the suspect himself), and we caught a vehicle trespass suspect who first fled in a car, then on foot (unsuccessfully).

In the words of DJ Khaled— and another one.

Another copper thief busted, more loads of copper recovered!

Our dedicated detectives served a search warrant on a residence in the 7000 block of Highway 2 this morning and located all this stolen material.

The culprit was taken into custody on an outstanding felony warrant and for new felony theft charges.

Like we told you last week— CCPD is cracking down on on this costly crime. Help us by reporting suspicious people and activity around copper wiring to 911!

Today's the day!

We're remembering the life and legacy of our forever friend, Detective Curt Holland, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2020.

140 golfers on 35 teams turned out to honor Curt today-- and raise money for scholarships for Commerce City kids-- 104 recipients since we began this program in Curt's name six years ago.

We'll never be able to properly thank you for caring enough about Curt and both his blue and blood family to continue to support his tournament and his scholarship fund year after year.

Gone but never forgotten, Curt.
