The month is almost over, but we couldn't let it end without recognizing all the hard-working people we have in Dispatch. Commerce Police Chief Corley Weatherford said, "Public safety generally doesn't begin when an Officer arrives. It begins the moment a dispatcher answers the phone. It takes skills and dedication to be a dispatcher. Their ability to gather information, provide life-saving instructions, and coordinate emergency response is nothing short of extraordinary. This month, we recognize their unwavering commitment and the vital impact they have on the emergencies we handle."
THANK YOU TO ALL DISPATCHERS!

Don't forget! Today, between 10 AM and 12:30 PM, the City of Commerce will be taking part in a Statewide Emergency Notification test. This is at the request of the TDEM. As part of this drill, local jurisdictions across Texas will test systems used to notify the public during emergencies. Depending on the jurisdiction you are in at the time of test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone and/or hear outdoor warning sirens. The City of Commerce will activate its weather sirens as well as send messages through our Hyper Reach emergency notification system at 10:00 AM. Should hazardous weather be present in our area during the test window, the weather sirens will not activate and will be tested by other means.

Press Release
March 23, 2026

The Commerce Police Department and law enforcement across the state ramped up traffic enforcement activities to reduce drunk driving and increase safety on our roadways! In 2025, there were 22,087 alcohol related crashes on Texas roadways, which resulted in 865 fatalities. The Commerce Police Department increased traffic enforcement throughout spring break to help keep our roadways safe and reduce injury and fatality crashes.

During this period of increased enforcement, officers are assigned to this initiative to work outside their regular shifts. Increasing the number of officers on our roadways. As a result of these efforts, officers stopped 69 vehicles. Of those sixty-nine vehicles, officers issued sixteen citations, sixty-seven warnings, and made two arrests.

Remember, drunk driving crashes are preventable 100% of the time. If you drink any amount of alcohol, do not get behind the wheel. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service or taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transit. You can also just stay where you are until you’re sober.
