East Texas A&M Police Academy recruits are getting hands-on experience in the details that matter.

This week, recruits are training in fingerprinting and crime scene investigation, learning how to properly identify, collect, preserve, and document evidence.

These practical skills are an important part of preparing future law enforcement officers for the work they’ll encounter in the field.

Recent burglaries of motor vehicles in the area serve as a reminder for the Lion Community to stay alert and take basic steps to protect their property. Always lock your vehicle, close all windows, and remove keys or key fobs, even when parking for a short time. Do not leave valuables, bags, fi****ms, electronics, or personal items visible inside your vehicle. Park in well-lit areas when possible and report suspicious activity immediately to UPD or through the Lion Safe app.

See something, say something.
Protect the Pride.

East Texas A&M University will also participate in this statewide exercise by sending the monthly Lion Safe test message during the same testing window.

The Lion Safe message on April 2, 2026 will read:
“This is a test of the East Texas A&M University Warning System. Normal testing takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.
Today, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the request of the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), a statewide test of emergency alerting systems will occur. Sirens will sound in the City of Commerce at 10:00 AM.”

Because multiple jurisdictions across the region may participate in this exercise, campus community members may receive more than one test alert during the testing window. This is only a test. No emergency action is required.
Thank you for your attention and support in this important exercise!
