Adult 📚 bookclub meets last Thursday of each month!
For September, we are reading any book written by Jenny Lawson. Her books are nonfiction memoirs and extremely funny. The past few months have been such serious and depressing subject matter books, so it's time for a giggle break.

Here is what I believe is a full list of her books.

-Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir (2012)

-Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things (2015)

-You Are Here: An Owner's Manual for Dangerous Minds (2017) – An interactive art and coloring book

What does your library mean to Commerce? ❤️📚

Commerce Public Library is more than a place to check out books.

It’s a place where a child discovers a love of reading.
Where someone can use a computer or Wi-Fi when they don’t have access at home.
Where adults can work toward a GED or strengthen their English skills.
Where families can learn, create, and spend time together without worrying about the cost.
Where teens have a safe place to belong.
Where community members can find information, resources, technology, and a helping hand.

And almost all of it is available free of charge.

When you give to our Double Your Impact campaign, you’re not simply supporting a building—you’re investing in the people who use it every day.

Through September 17, every dollar you give can be matched dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.

Did you know Commerce Public Library is a nonprofit?

Our library has traditionally operated through a partnership of public support, earned revenue, grants, and community generosity.

Historically, roughly one-third of our annual revenue has come from the City of Commerce, one-third from passport services, and one-third from grants and donations.

We’re grateful for the City’s longstanding support and its recent investment in renovations and accessibility improvements to our building. At the same time, the City has not been in a position to increase annual operating support for many years.

Now another piece of our traditional funding model is changing: passport income is no longer a dependable source of library revenue.

That makes community support more important than ever.

From August 27–September 17, your gift can help us raise $25,000 and unlock an additional $25,000 matching gift—giving us the opportunity to raise $50,000 for the future of our library.

🍂📚 September is packed at Commerce Public Library!

We're settling into fall with returning favorites, new opportunities to learn and create, and a few special events you won't want to miss.

🎨 Homeschool Open Art Studio is back with a new family-led, drop-in format on September 4 & 18.

🎮 Kids and teens can join us for Game On!, Teen Switch Club, Teen D&D, Chess Club, Kids Book Club, Pokémon Day, and Teen Makerspace.

🛠️ Our regular Saturday Makerspace continues this month, plus join us for a Makerspace Open House on September 26 to explore 3D printing, laser cutting, sublimation, and more!

💵 Our next Financial Literacy Workshop is September 15 at 3 PM, followed by Adult Craft Night at 5:30 PM. We'll also have Voter Registration available from 5–7 PM that evening.

💻 Adult/Senior Tech Class, GED Tutoring, Adult D&D, Cover to Cover Book Club, and our monthly Silver Leos writers meeting are all on the calendar too.

💙 North Texas Giving Day is September 17! Your support this year can help us unlock our $25,000 matching gift and make your donation go twice as far.

🎨 Homeschool Art Studio is back—with a new, more flexible format!

This fall, we're introducing Homeschool Open Art Studio, a relaxed, family-led art experience where homeschoolers of all ages can create, experiment, and explore at their own pace.

Instead of everyone completing the same project together, each studio will feature several creative stations:

🎨 CREATE — Try the featured art project
✏️ DRAW — Explore a creative drawing prompt
🧪 EXPLORE — Experiment with materials and techniques
📚 DISCOVER — Find books and inspiration connected to the theme

Come when you can, stay as long as you'd like, and try one activity or all of them!

Our fall themes include:

🌿 September — Art From Nature
💡 October — Light & Shadow
🗺️ November — Maps & Imaginary Places
📖 December — Book Art Studio

No registration is required.

Please note that Open Art Studio is a family-led program, not a drop-off class. Parents and caregivers should remain with their children, assist younger artists as needed, and help leave the workspace ready for the next family.

We'll provide the space, materials, ideas, and inspiration.

📚DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT: A $25,000 MATCHING CHALLENGE
Beginning August 27, your gift to Commerce Public Library can have twice the impact!
An anonymous donor has committed $25,000 toward improvements to our library, including lighting, a new digital sign, and security camera upgrades. Now we're asking our community to help us raise another $25,000 and unlock the full match.
Why now?
Commerce Public Library is a nonprofit library. Historically, roughly one-third of our annual revenue has come from the City, one-third from passport services, and one-third from grants and donations.
We are grateful for the City of Commerce's continued partnership and its recent investment in renovations and improved accessibility at the library. However, annual City operating support has remained relatively steady for many years, and passport income is no longer a dependable source of library revenue.
Community support is more important than ever.
From August 27 through September 17, help us invest in the future of Commerce Public Library.
