🚒🔥 That’s a Wrap on Fire Prevention Week! 🔥🚒

We wrapped up Fire Prevention Week by spending time with the students at Scioto Elementary School for our annual Touch-a-Truck event! 🚒👨‍🚒

Throughout the week, our firefighters visited students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, sharing important fire safety lessons and answering questions. This year, we focused on charging safety 🔋⚡️ and the importance of safely charging phones, tablets, scooters, and other battery-powered devices.

A few important reminders:
🔌 Use the charger designed for your device.
🔥 Keep charging devices away from beds, blankets, and other things that can burn.
🛴 When possible, charge electric scooters and bikes outdoors, away from living spaces.
⚠️ Never use damaged batteries or chargers.

Touch-a-Truck was a great way to finish the week, giving students the opportunity to get up close to our fire apparatus, explore the equipment, and spend time with their local firefighters!

🚨 UH60 BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER TRAINING 🚨

This morning, members from all three shifts as well as multiple mutual aid partners were joined by flight members of the 137th Aviation Battalion out of Rickenbacker for a very rare and special training opportunity. For the past two years, Cpt. Jarrett (STFD) and Cpt. Wallace (137th) have been coordinating a way for our members to receive this training and we were finally able to make it happen.

If you’re familiar with our area, you know that throughout the week there is constant air traffic out of Rickenbacker with UH60 Blackhawk helicopters. Most of this traffic begins and ends over Scioto Township and Harrison Township. Like with motor vehicle crashes, the most likely location for an accident to occur is “close to home”. That makes this vital for our crews to be familiar with the aircraft.

At 0900 this morning, a flight crew of 4 landed in the open field behind the Scioto Township Trustee Building. Over 20 dedicated first responders worked hand-in-hand with the flight crew to build general knowledge of the aircraft, emergency shut down procedures, flight gear removal, and patient extrication in the event of an emergency. The opportunity for our crews to practice hands-on with the aircraft to figure out what will work, what won’t work, and to have done it in a low-stress environment is vital to a successful outcome should an event like this occur.

We would like to thank Cpt. Wallace and the entire 137th Aviation Battalion of the Ohio National Guard for working tirelessly with us on planning and executing this training. We thank you for teaching us today and for your continued service to our state and country.

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week at Scioto Elementary! 🔥🚒

Our firefighters had a great time visiting Scioto Elementary School for our annual fire prevention talks with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade! 👩‍🚒

Each year, we look forward to spending time with these students, talking about fire safety, answering questions, and helping them learn what they can do to stay safe at home.

This year, we’re putting a special emphasis on charging safety 🔋⚡️. With phones, tablets, scooters, bikes, and other battery-powered devices becoming part of everyday life, it’s important for kids and adults to understand how to charge them safely.

🔌 Remember:
• Use the charger designed for your device
• Don’t charge devices under pillows, blankets, or on beds
• Keep charging devices away from things that can burn
• When possible, charge battery-powered scooters and bikes outside—not in bedrooms, kitchens, or other living spaces
• If a battery or charger looks damaged, stop using it and tell an adult

Good Morning Scioto Township!

As everyone gets ready to start their Wednesday, we wanted to give everyone a heads-up about a training that will be occurring today behind the Township Building. At around 0900 this morning, a military UH60 Blackhawk helicopter will be landing in the area. This is a planned landing and is not an emergency. Members from Scioto and other nearby departments will take the morning to train on the aircraft. After training is completed, the aircraft will be leaving approximately around 1200. We ask that the public maintain distance during the training and respect all barricades in place. If you would like to see the aircraft, you are welcome to park and walk over but we ask that you do not enter the training area. If you have any questions, please feel free to send us a message.
