Jefferson-Como Fire remembering all you gave. THANK YOU!

Hope late is better than never! Huge shoutout to Maverick Mountain BBQ, for providing some much appreciated (and seriously delicious) BBQ and sides to our firefighters several weeks ago while they were working on a local fire.

After a long day on the line, the great food was exactly what was needed and very much appreciated by our crews. We’re grateful for the continued support from local businesses and community members who always step up for first responders.

Be sure to check them out at their new location the next time you’re in Fairplay — or make a stop this weekend!

🔥 FIRE RESTRICTIONS UPDATE 🔥

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions have been lifted within the Jefferson-Como Fire Protection District. The current fire danger level is now MODERATE.

🔥 While conditions have improved, wildfire risk remains present across Park County. We ask all residents and visitors to continue using caution and good judgment when conducting any open burning or recreational fires.

Please remember:
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep fires small and manageable
• Have water, tools, or a hose immediately available
• Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area
• Avoid burning during windy conditions

Even under moderate conditions, one escaped fire can quickly threaten homes, property, and our community.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and continued commitment to helping keep our district safe this season.

April is Dig Safely Month, and it’s more important than ever. In Colorado, nearly half of all 911 service disruptions are caused by accidental fiber cuts, often from digging without knowing what’s below.

Before you start any project, planting trees, building a fence, or tackling that spring upgrade, make the free call to 8-1-1 at least two business days before you dig. It’s quick, easy, and could prevent a major emergency communication outage.

✔️ Protect critical 911 infrastructure
✔️ Prevent injuries and costly repairs
✔️ Keep your community connected when it matters most

Let’s work together to keep emergency lines open and communities safe.

Call 811. Know what’s below. Dig safely.

🚨 Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Now in Effect 🚨

Beginning March 27, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place across the Pike-San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands.

🔥 What this means:
• No campfires outside designated fire rings
• No smoking except in cleared or enclosed areas
• Restrictions on welding, torches, and more

These measures are in place due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions.

Good news for responsible shooters: The Park County Shooting Range in Como will reopen tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 24.

The range was temporarily closed recently as a precaution following a small fire. After a full review of the area and conditions, and in coordination with the county, it is now ready for use.

Important reminder: With Stage II Fire Restrictions still in effect across Park County, a designated range is currently the only permitted location for recreational shooting.

We appreciate everyone helping protect our community and encourage everyone to stay safe and be responsible in all activities.

Litmer Fire Update: The fire has been fully contained and all crews and apparatus have cleared the scene.

We've received several questions about what started the fire: The fire has been determined to be human-caused.

With dry conditions, gusty winds, low humidity, and Stage II Fire Restrictions still in effect across Park County (no open fires, extreme caution required), please remain vigilant and cautious with any potential ignition sources.

Thank you to all responders and the community for your support.
