The Comptche Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) is excited to announce our Rescue Vehicle Replacement Project. Our goal is to purchase a new primary response rescue vehicle for medical emergencies in our community and surrounding areas. We have already received a generous anonymous donation to help CVFD with the purchase of this new vehicle. These funds along with the tax monies that have been saved by the Community Services District will cover a substantial portion of the cost, but we need to raise an additional $75,000 in order to fully fund this critical purchase.

We are working with the manufacturer and have designed a rescue apparatus truck that will service the specific needs of our rural community. It will be capable of providing safe emergency transport to the nearest responding air or ground ambulance while also carrying critical emergency medical and rescue equipment. This vehicle will replace our current rescue vehicle which was purchased by our community in 2002. It is a Ford truck that has a used equipment service body that was built in 1989 and has been repaired and retrofitted many times. This vehicle has served the department well. Unfortunately, it has reached the end of its serviceable life. This new rescue vehicle will be built to current required national safety standards and will have improved compartment space for firefighter and patient safety, which is always our highest priority. It will also have an abundance of easy to use equipment storage areas. The design has taken into consideration the remote nature of our Comptche community and is expected to serve CVFD for the next 30 years.

Any donation to this project would be greatly appreciated and will enable our all-volunteer fire department to better protect the Comptche community and to provide critical life saving patient rescue and care while emergency personnel transport patients to the appropriate air or ground rendezvous locations.

The Comptche Volunteer Fire Department is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, so all donations are tax deductible. Please send donations to CVFD, PO Box 164, Comptche, CA 95427.

The Redding Fire Family kindly asks for the community to join us in support and thoughtful prayer for the crew members of REACH 5.

Please take a moment and think of these first responders and their families as they work through the sadness, chaos and emotion in the coming days following yesterday’s tragic incident in the Sacramento area. Out of respect for the crew and their families names of those involved will not be distributed in social media postings.

We are proud to support our local area brother and sister first responders in their time of need and hope you will join us in that effort.

Thank you to the quick, professional response from members of and hospital staff in the area as they worked together on behalf of the injured crew members.

More info to follow in the coming days on how to effectively and properly support these families.

The Father’s Day BBQ Chicken Dinner benefitting the Comptche Volunteer Fire Department will be back in action Sunday June 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at Firehouse Park, right next to the fire station, a quarter mile south of the Comptche Store on Flynn Creek Road. A great meal is available for $27 for ages 13 and up, $12 for kids ages 7-12. Kids under six eat free.

The chicken will be hitting the BBQ grill served with salad, garlic bread, macaroni salad, beans and homemade pies and desserts. There will be liquid refreshments, a country store, a kids play zone and a raffle. Comptche quilters have hand made award winning quilts for decades and this year the quilt is the Grand Prize finishing the raffle.

Music will be provided by 2nd Hand Grass and New Nashville West.

The Comptche Volunteer Fire Department has been a valued part of the community for over 60 years. This event helps ensure the financial stability of the organization.

PLEASE leave your pets at home.

A strong Atmospheric River will bring a prolonged period of moderate-to-heavy rainfall beginning on Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the weekend. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday with 2 to 4 inches of rain. Persistent rain is expected Thursday through Saturday with 1 to 3 inches of rainfall most likely each day. Excessive heavy rainfall will increase the flooding potential of small streams, low-lying and poor drainage areas. Be prepared and stay tuned to weather.gov/eka/ to the latest weather forecasts.

Congratulations Cecile, our June SBMC Volunteer of the Month! This program recognizes our employees for the community service hours that they provide. There are many local causes that our employees are enthusiastic about, and we want to showcase their involvement and the local organizations that they support. Each month a lucky winner is randomly selected from those who report their volunteer hours.

After serving as a member of the Comptche Volunteer Fire Department for ten years, Cecile has recently moved from the Comptche area. She was inspired to join the department when she was just 17 due to multiple large fires in the area during her childhood, including one that came very close to her family property. She joined the department and became an EMT, responding to multiple fires, including the Redwood Complex fire in 2018. She also served as Treasurer and Secretary, as well as Medical Equipment Coordinator, for the department throughout her tenure. She has volunteered for their Father’s Day BBQ fundraiser for as long as she can remember, including managing the financials of the event. Even though she is no longer an active member of the department, she volunteered for the Father’s Day BBQ this June, and still assists the department occasionally with Treasurer and Secretary duties.
