Out and about in the region: This week we were thrilled to attend opening celebrations for two NBRC-funded projects in Vermont!

In South Burlington, the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport unveiled its North Concourse Replacement Project (Project NexT). A stunning display of mass timber's potential in transportation infrasturcture, this project received funding through NBRC's Timber for Transit Program.

In Randolph, the Orange County Parent Child Center (OCPCC) celebrated the opening of its new Woodlands Campus child care center. NBRC Catalyst Program funds supported the purchase of furniture, playground equipment, classroom supplies, and start-up operation costs for the center's early childhood education program.

Many thanks to all who put their time and dedication into getting these projects across the finish line to the benefit and enjoyment of our communities.

Join the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) for a webinar covering the 2026 Timber for Transit program, which is expected to make up to $14 million available for competitive awards supporting the use of advanced wood materials in transportation infrastructure. This session will walk participants through the two funding tracks: Feasibility Awards of up to $1,000,000 for early‑stage planning and assessment activities, and Implementation Awards of up to $5,000,000 for construction and non‑construction projects that advance Timber for Transit priorities.

Attendees will learn what distinguishes feasibility from implementation projects, how to meet the higher‑maximum criteria for awards over $1,000,000, and what NBRC looks for in competitive proposals—including alignment with program priorities, readiness, budget details, and project visibility. Whether you are exploring project concepts or preparing to apply, this webinar will provide clarity on program priorities, expectations, and next steps for the 2026 funding round.

Congratulations to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and their exciting renovation project!

"The renovation will address a myriad of infrastructure challenges that have developed after over 50 years of service to the community. The building’s capacity has been limited by lack of accessibility, crumbling foundations, leaking roofs, and outdated mechanical systems – including heating and cooling – that are critically due for an update. The renewed facility will be fully accessible and welcoming for all, with important structural and technological upgrades that will make for a sustainable community resource that preserves the unique character of the original Arts Center. Besides a new state-of-the-art theatre, the updated building will feature a new art gallery, a dedicated education space, an expanded lobby, revitalized green spaces and improved traffic flow for the parking lots."

🍁The NBRC is proud to be among the funders supporting this work. For a full list of funded projects in New York, please visit: https://www.nbrc.gov/content/new-york

Lake Placid Center for the Arts breaks ground on a $33 million renovation to modernize its 53-year-old theater. The project includes accessibility upgrades, a new gallery, and expanded education spaces, with reopening planned for July 2027.
