NH Survivor Outreach Services

NH Survivor Outreach Services A unified support program that embraces and reassures Survivors that they are continually linked to

The Army established the Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) program to provide support to Survivors and Families of our Fallen Soldiers. This support program encompasses all components and demonstrates the Army’s commitment to Families of the Fallen by providing support and standardized services for Army Active, Reserve and National Guard Families. The SOS program can connect you with people who can

help you cope with your loss, answer questions concerning benefits and put you in touch with other Survivors. The program uses a holistic and multi-agency approach to deliver services to Survivors and Families of all components across the nation. The National Defense Authorization Act 2014, Section 633, requires each secretary of a military department to designate a specific member to assist spouses and other dependents of service members, including Reserve Component, who die on active duty. These survivor advocates are available to provide support and address issues or concerns by spouses and other dependents of deceased service members regarding casualty assistance or receipt of benefits authorized by law. If you are a survivor and not satisfied with the casualty assistance provided by your service, see below for information to contact your advocate. Army Gold Star Advocate

"There is another battlefield that we have not fully acknowledged.
A battlefield that follows many Veterans home.
A battlefield fought in silence.
A battlefield inside the human mind."

Yesterday was a truly celebratory day for Gold Star families in New Hampshire!

After years of persistence and heart, legislation was signed expanding Gold Star license plates to fathers and immediate family members. The room was filled with big emotion as some families shared how, for the first time in a long time, they feel seen, remembered, and no longer forgotten. This moment was long overdue, and the joy, relief, and gratitude in the air were undeniable.

We’re so thankful to the Gold Star families who stepped forward and led with courage, to the legislators who listened and acted, and to the Governor’s office for making this happen. Getting this done right before Memorial Day made it even more meaningful.

The Governor’s office kindly shared these photos from the bill signing. There’s still some administrative work ahead, but it looks like the plates will be ready in January. We’ll keep everyone posted with updates as we have them!

And to every single person who showed up to hearings, wrote letters, made phone calls, and fought for this behind the scenes — this win belongs to you. Your grit, your dedication, and your resilience turned years of effort into real change. This was true teamwork from every level, and today we’re celebrating every one of you.
