K9 Rico Finds Hidden Firearm After Foot Pursuit

A few weeks ago, officers from a neighboring agency pursued a suspect who was believed to be armed. After the suspect was safely taken into custody, officers requested assistance from our K9 team to search the area for any discarded evidence.

K9 Rico, who is specially trained in locating fi****ms, tracked the suspect’s path and located a loaded handgun with an extended magazine hidden between some tires near where the suspect was arrested.

Great work by K9 Rico and his handler for helping ensure our community stays safe! 🐾💙~596

The Drone team had a visitor yesterday. While a remote pilot was doing an interior search at one of our local high schools, K9 Rico did a great job of staying by his handlers side. K9 Rico didn't let the loud drone or the disturbed air from its propellers distract him during some basic obedience.

Great job Rico!

It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to K9 Julka over the weekend.

K9 Julka served the Concord Police Department from 2015-2021 and was the first female K9 since 1987. She was beloved by co-workers and many friends she met along the way.

Rest easy Lady Dog, you are greatly missed!

It's a sad day for Concord PD. Today we day goodbye to K9 Hancock. EOW 7/3/2025

"K9 handlers are a unique breed, assigned a different and challenging task compared to other roles within the department. I had a strong sense of this before becoming a handler, and it was clear that this was the path I wanted to pursue for my entire career.

As a K9 handler, there are usually no bad days. However, today was one of those rare and difficult moments. We bid farewell to K9 Hancock, who crossed the rainbow bridge with his family by his side.

K9 Hancock was a remarkable 12-year-old who dedicated his life to serving the City of Concord. He joined the department in February 2017 and remained with us until February 2025.

Hancock’s career was nothing short of exemplary. After serving for eight years, which is twice as long as the average K9 career, he received numerous awards, arrests, and letters of appreciation from our department and other agencies. His service saved countless lives, and his legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.

The sound of his bark and the excitement he generated (screamed! ) when he was let out of the car could literally make people surrender. I am incredibly proud to have been his handler and best friend for the past almost nine years. I cherish every moment we spent together, and I will always miss you. You have left an indelible mark on our lives, and your memory will never be forgotten."

Last Thursday our K9 unit teamed up with Motor Corporal Parsley to meet with the most well behaved transitional kindergarten classes at Highlands Elementary School.

We were able to show them how we train our dogs and Corporal Parsley showed off his riding skills. Afterwards the kids asked us some really good questions and then got to see how K9 Tripp splits between K9 and motors.
