While on deliveries, our loyal volunteers also offer a safety check so seniors can stay longer in their homes and live independently. Founded in 1974, our program has grown over the years to include all of Cabarrus County. Hunger among our senior neighbors remains a serious issue. One out of every seven seniors goes hungry everyday. They suffer from a variety of disabilities such as severe arthrit
is, blindness, and heart disease leaving them frail and physically unable to prepare their own meal. Mission: To provide one well-balanced hot meal a day each weekday to individuals who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and have no one to prepare one hot meal a day for them. Impact: Meals On Wheels deliveries help individuals remain independent in their homes longer, delaying or avoiding alternate living arrangements or nursing care. Also, temporary service helps recently hospitalized clients meet their nutritional needs during their recovery period. Cost: Clients are charged for the meals on a sliding scale according to their ability to pay. Over 80% of the clients pay less than one-half the cost of the meal. Funding: Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Inc. is funded by client fees, donations, United Way, and grants. Volunteer Opportunity: Weekday delivery meals, prepared in our kitchen by our staff, are delivered Monday through Friday between 10:30am to 1:00pm by volunteers. Adopt a Route: Business, churches or individuals can adopt-a-route, which means that they have one day a week or even the entire route and make that their own route; they have one person who is the chairperson of that route and each person works out their time among each other. We appreciate three of our local Rotary clubs (Rotary Club of Cabarrus County, Kannapolis Rotary, and Concord Rotary) for adopting routes as well as businesses like CMC Northeast and Allen Tate. We love our volunteers and can always use more help! Contact us at 704.932.3412 to set up your next delivery!
