🔥 A BIG thank you to Concord MA Fire Department 🚒❤️

What a wonderful afternoon at the Concord Council on Aging! Yesterday, the Concord Fire Department generously hosted a BBQ for more than 150 people, serving up great food, lots of smiles, and plenty of community spirit.

We were especially grateful to see so many generations come together for the day — our youngest guest was just 2 weeks old! 👶 From two weeks old to our older adults, it truly was a celebration for all ages.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the men and women of Concord Fire for taking the time to cook, serve, visit, and make everyone feel so welcome. Events like this remind us what makes Concord such a special community.

We appreciate all you do for Concord every day — and for making yesterday such a fun and memorable afternoon! 🚒🌭❤️

The Concord Council on Aging was happy to be part of today’s Wellness Fair at Gerow Park! It was wonderful connecting with community members, sharing information about the many programs and services available through the COA, and joining other local organizations in promoting health and wellness.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and learn more about what we offer. We always enjoy getting out into the community and reminding everyone that the Concord COA is here for you! 💙

Summer BBQ Fun at the COA!

What a great way to spend a summer afternoon! A huge thank you to the Concord Rotary Club for treating our seniors to a delicious BBQ. From the grill to the smiles around the tables, it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying good food and even better company!

And what’s a summer BBQ without fresh local corn? 🌽 A special thank you to Verrill Farm for providing the delicious corn that helped make the meal complete. We were also treated to fantastic live music by Becky and the Swingin' Bards, who kept the afternoon lively and had everyone enjoying their musical talents.

We’re so grateful for community partners like the Concord Rotary and Verrill Farm, and to Becky and The Swingin' Bards for helping make this such a fun and memorable summer celebration at the COA!

Celebrating Vikki 💙

Yesterday, we celebrated Vikki Jacobson and her incredible 8+ years with the Concord COA! 🎉

As our Volunteer Coordinator and Public Relations Coordinator, Vikki has left a lasting legacy—not just in the countless volunteers she welcomed and supported, but in the warmth, energy, creativity, and personality she brought to the COA every day. She has been a wonderful colleague, friend, cheerleader, and champion for everything that makes our community special.

Vikki, we hope this next chapter brings you plenty of relaxation, fun, adventures, and all the free time you’ve earned! We will miss you dearly, but we’re so grateful for the mark you’ve left on the COA and for the many memories we’ll carry with us.

On this day, August 9th:

Thoreau's meditation on man and nature is published August 9th, 1854: Two years of living on the shores of Massachusetts' Walden Pond have borne literary fruit as Henry David Thoreau's memoir of his secluded time there is published. 'Walden' will sell well and remain a seminal work of early environmentalism and a celebration of the individual's spirit.

The Concord Friends of the Aging invited senior residents to scream for ice cream at an old-fashioned Social at the Concord COA on a steamy Thursday afternoon. Chocolate, mint, vanilla, strawberry replete with all kinds of toppings cooled the crowd as did the dulcet melodies provided by Jerry Hurley on the ivories.
