Our work at National Braille Press yesterday involved collating the pages of The Lorax, the Children’s Braille Book of the Month book for April, which the Concord Lions sponsored. The NBP team has a well-organized process, and our small team was able to complete a couple hundred books during our visit. We can’t wait for the books to be in the hands of children and their families!

Fascinating to see how National Braille Press publishes books and materials on modified printing presses that print single pages using zinc plates or newer electronic printers that can collate. Special, thicker paper or thermoform plastic is used to ensure accuracy and longevity of the embossed dots. We highly recommend a tour! The Concord Lions are thrilled to sponsor National Braille Press’s April Children’s Braille Book Club book: The Lorax. 325 families will receive a free copy of the book, with additional copies provided to libraries and other sites. Blind parents can read to their children, and blind children (or older people) can learn Braille through this wonderful Dr Seuss classic.

We were honored to welcome Linda Erwich, Director of the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. (MLERF), to our March dinner meeting and to present her with a donation in support of the Fund. In appreciation, she presented the Club — represented by King Lion Heidi Clapp Webster — with a certificate recognizing our many years of loyal support. We are proud to support MLERF’s vital work funding cutting-edge research aimed at preventing and curing eye-related diseases.

Several Concord Lions were thrilled to come together with other Zone 6 members at the Zone Meeting and service project organized by Zone Chair Dan Reilly in support of Birthday Wishes. The club members helped create Birthday Party Boxes to bring the joy and magic of a birthday party to children experiencing homelessness. It was also a wonderful opporunity to spend time with Lions from the Acton Lions Club, Lexington Lions Club, Woburn Host Lions Club, Woburn Middlesex Lions Club, and Woburn Breakfast Lions Club. We're already looking forward tot he next Zone meeting!
