New Hampshire Senior Companion Program

New Hampshire Senior Companion Program Senior Companion volunteers are active older adults who visit socially isolated and frail seniors or adults with disabilities within their communities.

A Senior Serving Senior National Volunteer Program
To promote the independence and improve the quality of life for homebound elders and adults with disabilities while providing meaningful volunteer opportunities to active older adults over the age of 55. They enable those they visit to live independently by helping with errands, providing transportation to medical appointments, encouraging exercise, assisting with simple tasks, giving supportive friendship, and providing respite for caregivers.

It is with great disappointment that I announce that we will not be having our holiday party this year. With episodes of Covid on the rise, the safety of all is of upmost concern. We will certainly have a drive-through of sorts distribute gifts as we love you all and wish we could have this gathering. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

What’s at My Core:
Dawna B of Belmont shares, “I am unique, and not an antique”.
Humor is one of the most important human activities, one that is enjoyed daily by people in every culture and at every age. When asked to describe what constitutes successful aging, elderly people mention a sense of humor as one of the most important virtues. Humor is an everyday activity that has a strong impact on people at all ages. The ability to enjoy humor and the diverse ways it is consumed can reveal important facets of the aging process and has the potential to positively affect healthy aging.
Dawna always has a funny joke, a one-liner, and an overall great sense of humor. Thank you for bringing fun, laughter, and enjoyment to our program and to those you serve Dawna!!

When asked why Bonnie C. of Nashua volunteers for the Senior Companion Program she shares, “ It helps out the elderly- keeps them moving. I love being around them.”

Elders who are more socially involved are more likely to live longer than those who remain isolated. There are so many ways that seniors can maintain healthy relationships. Many of them are so easy to do and would make the world of a difference to each member. Thank you Bonnie for continuing to make the effort to strengthen relationships with homebound seniors. Their health depends on it!

Alice F of Plymouth shares, “I never thought I’d be here after 10 years, but here I am 20 something years- I don’t know where it all went. I just love it, and thank the program that I am still able to do this.”
Happiness is an essential aspect of our life, and it is the most valuable asset that you can own till the last breath of your life. When people are experiencing positive emotions or states, they feel like time is passing faster than when they experience negative feelings. A new study from psychological science suggests that the old saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ might really be true, with a slight twist: time flies when you’re having goal-motivated fun. Alice has contributed over 23 years of volunteering- which seems to fit the bill of goal-motivated fun. If you see her, you can tell she’s having fun! Thank you for spreading happiness Alice!
