The ACLU of New Hampshire engages with the community in four principal ways:
- Litigation, representing those whose rights have been violated;

- Grassroots organizing, mobilizing people to be advocates for themselves and others.

This is a victory for immigrants’ rights in the Granite State.

Local law enforcement officials, immigrants' rights advocates, civil rights proponents all agree: landlords and local sheriffs should not be acting as ICE – especially during evictions.

With the signing of these agreements, there are now 22 police departments across NH who are collaborating with ICE to engage in immigration enforcement.

By entering these voluntary agreements, local police are sacrificing the trust of their communities in exchange for fueling the Trump administration’s cruel, discriminatory deportation machine.

This victory will ease the burden for thousands of eligible Granite State voters to register and have a clear pathway to the voting booth.

A federal judge struck down New Hampshire’s new law requiring hard-copy proof of citizenship for voter registration Thursday, finding it unconstitutional, in a move that could stop its implementation for the midterm elections.

TAKE ACTION: Right now, state lawmakers are considering HB 1709, a bill that would direct landlords and local sheriffs to conduct harmful and cruel immigration enforcement against people who rent housing across New Hampshire.

This bill would not only fuel discrimination, but invite immigration policing into the homes of people living in the Granite State.

Immigrants rights advocates, civil rights proponents, and local law enforcement officials agree: landlords and local sheriffs should not be acting as ICE – especially during evictions.

The right to free expression includes the freedom to read whatever we choose and the ability to have access to diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences.

But yet again, NH lawmakers are attempting to make it easier to ban books and other types of content right here in the Granite State.

Just last year, Governor Ayotte vetoed a similar book banning bill and this time should be no different.

Of the six anti-discrimination bills filed this year, two nearly identical bills (HB 1442 and SB 552) are soon heading to Governor Ayotte’s desk.

Advocates and allies have worked tirelessly all session long to stop these cruel, discriminatory bills from moving forward and now we must urge Governor Ayotte to veto both of these bills — just as she has in the past.

VICTORY: HB 1792, an extreme and unconstitutional bill that would have censored what can be taught in our state's classrooms, discriminated against some viewpoints, and promoted some views over others has officially been defeated.

This is a victory for teachers who are simply doing their jobs and ensures all New Hampshire students are seen and heard in their classrooms.
