Friends of Forgotten Children is happy to announce that a special project that has been in the works for the past year is finally happening at our headquarters on Bog Road in Concord!
In collaboration with the Hillsborough Area Renewable Energy Initiative, a fellow local non-profit, we will be receiving a solar system! Installing solar will cut our electricity costs, which are currently high due to the nine freezers and refrigerators needed to store the food we distribute to the community.
HAREI received solar panels at a low cost and chose our organization to receive them! We are grateful to be chosen, especially as we are outside of their typical community area. HAREI also provided system design, volunteer installation labor, and coordinated with IronRidge manufacturer for a donation of the rail system the panels will be installed on. FOFC will personally fund electrician labor and all other materials needed for installation.
HAREI empowers its community with the DIY knowledge and skills to design, build, install, and operate renewable solar energy systems on homeowners' property, contributing to a sustainable future for all. Their "solar raising" brings HAREI volunteers together to install solar panels while providing hands-on training to those interested. Over the past several weeks, the rail system and wiring were installed on the roof at FOFC. We are scheduled to finish installing the solar panels this Sunday, May 31st and welcome anyone interested in checking out the project or learning more about solar energy to join us. Please note that only current members of HAREI will be allowed on the roof to view the installation.
Thank you to HAREI - Hillsborough Area Renewable Energy Initiative, IronRidge, Sentry Roofing & Solar, and all the volunteers and donors that have made this project possible.
