We are thankful for the rain and moisture we've received over the last couple of weeks. On that note, controlled burns of yard waste can continue. Before burning, call dispatch at 660-463-2140 and report that you will be doing a controlled burn.

Be careful of dry conditions and changes in the wind when performing controlled burns.

No burning until further notice. Starting 3-24-2026. Dry conditions continue along with low humidity. Wind speeds are also continuing to increase which will cause fire to spread faster. Fire Don't Care.

We would like to thank Higginsville Fire Protection District Alma Fire Protection District, Johnson County Fire Protection District, and Lafayette County Sheriff's Office for assisting us last night with the brush fire at the city lake. Their efforts, along with ours helped us keep the fire under control and not spread further than it had.

⚠️The combination of low humidity, gusty southwesterly winds, and dry
vegetation will support dangerous fire spread.
⚠️Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged in the warning area. Make sure all fires are fully extinguished, and monitor recent burns for redevelopment.
