Today has been a busy day for CFPD. We started with assisting Johnson Co Fire with a large natural cover fire near Martha Perry Conservation area and this evening we were assisted with a unoccupied house fire south of town. We appreciate the surrounding departments who always provide their reliable assistance and are happy to report no injuries.

We send our condolences and prayers to all involved...

From Scott Olsen, Fire Chief of Boone County Fire Protection District:

It is with great sadness that I announce that Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bryant Gladney was killed today while on the scene of an early morning vehicle accident on Interstate 70 westbound at mile marker 135.4 east of Columbia, MO near Route Z.

Assistant Chief Bryant Gladney, other Boone County Fire District units and a University Ambulance were on the scene of the original accident involving a large commercial truck on its side at 4:33 am. While crews were working the accident scene, a westbound truck hit Assistant Chief Gladney’s vehicle at a high rate of speed and then struck the University Hospital Ambulance and the original truck involved. Crews on scene were able to quickly extricate Assistant Chief Gladney from his vehicle and transport him to the University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No other first responders on the scene were injured.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

FYI: The strong smoke and haze around our area is from, what we believe, the wildfires in central Kansas, brought in by the storms. Please do not call 911 unless you see flames or smoke coming from something specific.

Be sure to remind your children what to do if there is a fire in the house or a smoke detector is sounding:
✔DIAL 911
✔Get low, below the smoke
✔Find the closest exit
✔Before opening an interior door, test the k**b. If it is hot, find another way out
✔If you're on a 2nd or 3rd floor and you cannot make it out, open a window, make noise and hang a sheet or piece of clothing out the window to alert the fire crews on scene.
✔When you make it outside, preplan a meeting spot in case of an emergency (for example: a tree or play house far enough away from the house).

Thank you St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School - Concordia, MO for inviting us to share our information with your children!

WE NEED YOU! CFPD is looking for motivated individuals who want to help continue our long-time tradition of providing a local, personal touch to a professional service to the Concordia community.

Vacancies to be filled ASAP include Firefighters and Licensed or Future Licensed EMT-Bs. No experience needed, all training will be provided.

Our firefighters are considered "paid volunteer" as our volunteers are reimbursed for their time when responding to a call and attending meetings/trainings. Our EMTs are paid per 12 hour shift plus hourly during calls, meetings and trainings.
