The Henry Thompson Bridge, also know as Baker River Bridge (built 1916-1918 ), was one of the longest single-span concrete structure in the West when built. The Thompson Bridge is a reinforced concrete open spandrel bridge and linked the two sides of the town of Concrete. The bridge carried State Route 20 (Main Street) over the Baker River and replaced an old wooden bridge that the Skagit County engineer had condemned.
The two Portland Cement firms operating in the Town of Concrete, the Superior Portland Cement Company and the Washington Portland Cement Company, donated the cement for construction of the bridge.
